I'm sure we all feel helpless right now so if anyone can remember what happened after Louie what's next? How can we help the island we love, when will they allow tourist back or can we volunteer for some humanitarian aid? Just want to bring the joy back to the islanders that give us so much.

Right now it is hurry up and wait. Once they get the airport open for emmergency relief and supplies and to evacuate the tourist. Then there will be a lot more damage assessments. Also they will need to get the port back open so container ships can get in with supplies.

Maybe start with electricity, water, non-perishable food and shelter not necessarily in that order... otherwise the ice melts
Participated in many disaster relief efforts and ice never made it to the top of the "needs" list

We were in SXM about 8 months after Luis and the island was functioning. You could still see lots of remnants of the hurricane, but this one appears much much worse. At least the airport was not decimated after Luis. I feel for all those tourists who weren't able to get out in time. Does anyone know when they'll be able to get out? Looking at all the pictures - it's so heartbreaking. What charities would be best to make donations to help the island out?
