It is with great sadness that we announce that the Summit suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Irma in the early hours of September 6th, 2017. As you can see from the pictures in our Facebook post (since I do not know how to post them here), Irma’s effect on us was catastrophic. Most of the roofs have been blown off of the buildings. In some cases, entire buildings have disappeared, in others the second floors of the two-story units were blown away. The pool deck is gone and the restaurant suffered severe damage as well.

Most importantly, we have just heard this morning that all of our employees have been accounted for and are safe. This has been our top priority since the storm first hit and we are thankful to be able to relay this news.

When we have more information available, we will post it. In the meantime, please pray for Evans, her son Honore and her mother Mena, all of whom have lost their homes in this terrible tragedy.

Thank God everyone is safe. We have bee going there for 34 years and have become friends with all the people at the Summit. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> Buildings can be replaced but lives can't <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/usflag.gif" alt="" />

I know what Bruce said above, but the note in red on their website indicates to me that they are not reopening. Maybe I'm just reading into it wrong.
Have you heard anything Bob?

I read it the same way davecyndi. Great little hotel, excellent staff and location. The hotel has been hit a couple of times before. Stayed a few times on short stays. The hotel received extensive damage in 1995 or 1996. Hurricane Louis I believe. We were lucky to get out on an AA flight the day before that hurricane hit. You will most likely survive a cat 5 storm but our concern is the next day. Where do you get food/water etc. and when can you get off the island? Really have to feel sorry for all those on the various islands who have no job to go to as a result of Irma.

Sorry for the confusion folks. The fact is that we simply do not know yet. I need to get down to the island and see the situation on the ground, ask engineers to make an assessment, determine what is needed and so much more before we can know one way or the other. I'd rather underpromise and overdeliver than the other way around. Please be patient. This all just happened less than 48 hours ago. Thanks.

Bruce, the owner of the Summit has started a Go Fund Me site for donations for his employees, many who have been left with nothing at all. The site is https://www.gofundme.com/cnhakp-summit-s...tion_receiptv5.
Remember all the good times that you had from the wonderful people at The Summit. Now is the time for us to help them <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/usflag.gif" alt="" />

Have heard from some people who worked at the Summit and they are ok. Amber, one of bartenders at the Summit is safe but she said she can't gain access to the resort because of the damage to see the damage to the Sublime restaurant which only opened at the end of May <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/usflag.gif" alt="" />
