Last year we did a day trip to Anguilla, and it was cool the way they basically "hand-held" you, i.e., directed you to a taxi, which conveniently picked you up at the end of the day (We taxied to Shoal Bay East from the dock upon arrival).

Is it similar with a St. Bart's day trip, or do you need to rent a car. We figured the first trip we would just take baby steps upon arrival in St. Barts; it's only for a day trip, after all. We're hoping there's a beach near the arrival point, and shops/food, etc. Otherwise, a taxi to a nice spot with those amenities and then hopefully the taxi also picks us up around 5pm or so, similar to how we did it in Anguilla. Any helpful info would be much appreciated. Thank you !

I have done it a few times. Never rented a car. We have taken the ferry to and from, walked the town and shops, grabbed a taxi for an island tour and had it drop us st Nikki beach and set a pickup time to get back to the ferry. Another time we flew over, took taxi to town, walked around and then walked to Shell Beach, hung out and walked back to town and took ferry back. Last few times we flew round trip from Grand Case, grabbed taxi for an island tour or to just get us to town, after grabbed another taxi to St Jean Beach (Nikki, Eden Rock, Tom Beach) hung out and walked to the airport. If flying just be there early because If you are there they fly!! Just remember it's an expensive island. But you can hit a grocery (one in Gustavia) and grab food to take to the beach. Not all have restaurants on them

Anytime. I love it there. But.....it's very pretentious, but can be very chill also! Kind of anything goes, but costs!!

i'll admit we always like to have a car wherever we go, for however long, so we've always enjoyed having our own car on SBH even when we used to go for day-trips....i think we went without a car once, but we already knew the island at the time and knew we'd just be hanging out in Gustavia/Shell Beach for the day

Gustavia/Shell Beach sounds perfect. I just checked it out online. Close to shops, food, etc. Thank you...
