Hi Everybody,

I pop in here every year or two to lurk and get myself all worked up in advance of our SXM trips. I'm pretty excited to have booked over the weekend for our next visit in February. We're taking our sons again - now 23 and 21, as who knows when we'll all be able to travel together again. As the younger has to travel during University reading week, we had to book early. Even booking really early, it is expen$ive that week! We've booked the same townhouse/condo place as last time in Orient village. It was so great last time, why not go with what you know?

Now having been to SXM so many times, going to the same (Orient) location, and now the very same apartment, you could hardly have a more low-stress, comfortable vacation. Having seen all the sights already, we never feel any pressure to do anything but go with the flow.

Now I just have to wait out the next 6 mos!

We booked 9 months out so i understand your anticipation. The time will be here before you know it, and it already sounds like you'll have a great time!

After having been on the fence for the past couple of weeks, I booked new tix today on Delta to replace the Westjet tix that were cancelled last week.

We love the place, we want to get back and spend our tourist dollars. It won't be the same as usual, but I am imagining a bit more of an adventure than usual at the same time. Fingers crossed we won't be underfoot and a nuisance.

Only problem is that the airport may not be open for commercial flights yet!

I see no problem here.
If commercial flights are not permitted by poster's dates, airline will refund or credit for a later date when reconstruction is completed.
I suspect that commercial flights will resume before terminal is finished. All speculation at this point.

Most of you have been going for years. Remember when the airport was seemingly a bunch of cattle sheds? We all survived that. I think you'll see a lot of work accomplished on the terminal and whatever isn't ready will be replaced by temporary buildings and such. Restarting tourism is not far down the list of the government's priorities. However, if cancelled, as above there'll be refunds and a last minute booking to someplace less desirable.

Which is completely meaningless until the SXM airport announces a date that they will actually be open for Commercial Air Traffic.

Another voice of reason. You are few and far between. Sadly, people just do not get it. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Yup! I read a post on Facebook from another well placed Islander suggesting it's just not time to visit yet and won't be for a while. I get it and I understand........

We're hoping maybe next Fall. But after the hurricane season!?! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />
