That would be great if it really happens. We stayed at LaBelle Creole on our first trip to the island circa 1988. I believe that it was a Hilton at the time. Like a European village, each room was unique. We checked in that first day and went down the road to Baie Rouge where we met Gus selling drinks out of his cooler.

Of course this is all still speculation but if it comes to fruition as described it sounds very nice. What's especially striking is the difference between these plans that clearly include a significant amount of construction work on the island vs. the proposed pre- fab and shipped-in Chinese building that's being discussed.

I had the same thought. No mention of major importing of products or workers. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Joy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Joy.gif" alt="" />

We enjoyed anniversary dinners at the restaurant, LA Provence, and it was so lovely there. So sorry when that all disapoeared! The gardens and all the grounds were beautiful and such a nice area for an evening stroll. It really was a special place.

Lots of rumors but nothing confirmed. This is the year they're supposed to fish or cut bait. Remains to be seen if anthing will happen..... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Mullet Bay Resort just sold a big piece of land close to the A.U.C to some French people and they will be building two huge 20 floors Condos . Saw the pictures of the design. Interesting indeed. They have already cleared the land.
And for La Belle Creole nothing .

Lesley,
Don't know if you can answer this but I'm curious with regard to the Mullet land sold - the land you're speaking of. Is it in front of the Towers towards the ocean or on the side where the other two Towers buildings were to have been built? If you know....... any info appreciated.
Also, does the island have fire and other emergency equipment to service buildings of that magnitude, God forbid it should ever be needed? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

No it's not close to the Towers nor the sea. It's right next to road passing Star Casino and the last part of the Golf Course.

Thanks, Lesley......
Twenty stories?! Well, so much for our quiet little corner..... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Twenty stories!! Oh my goodness....no height restrictions I guess?
Pat, that land where the other two towers were going to be was excavated long ago...but is now grown over. I would hate for something else to go up there. The AUC already blocks my late afternoon sun at the pool. Poo!

We were just told 12 stories. The land is cleared. 12 or 20. Still too high. Who approves these projects?

The land in question was not sold by Mullet Bay. It was privately owned by an individual living in Singapore for many years. The reason he erected a fence around it years ago was to mark it as separate from the other parcels around it and thus protect his rights to it. The land was purchased from him recently and, according to the developer who purchased it, two new buildings of 20 stories each are going to go up there. As with everything in SXM, one needs to take this with as many grains of salt as one deems appropriate. As experienced residents and visitors to the island know, nothing can be considered a done deal until actual construction begins.

Interesting. I did. Find it pretty odd that if it was owned by Mullet that Mullet would sell it!! But 20 stories. Oh My!!

Carol my comment carries no tone, just a fact. Lesley lives on the island and knows more than someone who just pops his head in every now and then. I am stating a fact... Comments or opinion on this site don't always equate to kindness so there is no real reason to single me out here.

Your comment very much has a tone, especially since it's against someone from the Summit.
This one is done.
