Do you have a link FireProf? Searching The Terra Cotta still gets the old Terra Cotta Inn results.

The Terra Cotta Inn had a large following. Tom stated that their business had a conservative 75% occupancy rate, year round. We were frequent visitors for over 17 years. There were many times we called and could not get a room because they were full. Often heard the same from many of their guests and people we'd met there.
The Terra Cotta Inn was clothing optional but in all those years, and all those visits ... I can count the number of people in bathing suits (all of them women) on one hand. Many a first timer came out in a bikini, left less than an hour later and came out topless, only to emerge a couple hours later completely nude. Most first timers would say ... "there's only one way to do this ... jump in with both feet!"
There was only one couple that visited annually. He was naked all the time, his wife was not but she never ventured far from their small patio out front of their room. She never wore a bathing suit so she never ventured over to the pool or hot tub. She visited so her husband could visit. They'd stay for an entire week.
The new Terra Cotta is couples only and it's Smoke Free! The first smoke free clothing optional resort in the US. That's huge for many people that used to get smoked outta their patios at the old Terra Cotta Inn because their neighbors smoked packs a day, every day, throughout the day and night.
A lot of the same amenities like the Ol' Terra Cotta Inn. Morning continental breakfast, afternoon strawberries (in season) and wine and snacks. Same type of policies on early check in, day use and the ability to stay the day til 5pm on check out day or day use.
The ol' Terra Cotta Inn had a large following and from what I'm hearing and reading, all those customers are eager to return from places they were forced to visit because of the Terra Cotta Inn closing. I don't doubt that the new Terra Cotta will do just as well as the ol TCI and that even though it's "clothing optional", 99% ,or better, are and will always be nude.

Hi, My name is John Ruze. I am the owner of the new Terra Cotta in Palm Springs, CA. I would like to welcome everyone to our resort. Based on the advice of Tom and Mary Clare, I am calling the resort clothing optional as it is much nicer sounding and easier to book first timers. I know the original Terra Cotta Inn was the best place for first timers and our goal is to make the new Terra Cotta the best place for first timers too. As Fireprof mentioned first timers always ended up nude at the original Terra Cotta and at our new resort too. We do a good job of screening guests, so we do not get gawkers wearing clothes. The response to our opening has been over whelming. We've had guests from Canada, Australia, England, Hong Kong, and all over the US. We are rapidly gaining the reputation of being the place for nudists to vacation out west. Anyone that wants to email me with questions is more than welcome to at JohnR@hotelterracotta.com And yes, we are 100% tobacco free, so you do not have to worry about smokers sitting next to you at the pool.

Thanks John. Operating as Clothing Optional is a proven way to attract new couples to naturism.
Our family joke is that it is usually the husband who wants to make the first visit to a C/O resort...and it is the wife who keeps wanting to return! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" />

We enjoyed our visit to the new Terra Cotta. There clearly is work to be done, but it has potential.
The room we stayed in was good size and well appointed, I did miss a table and chairs in the room more than I thought I would. It was a bit tougher to get some business taken care of while sitting on the edge of the bed balancing my laptop. The pool deck is in rough shape, but that's on the agenda to get redone at some point, bring flip flops to protect your feet from small rocks and deteriorated concrete.
I didn't care for the loungers, they're formed in a sitting curve for your legs, so if you decided to lay on your tummy the angle is all wrong. I prefer the flat vinyl loungers with the back adjustment than can work for sitting up or for laying on your stomach flat. I'm sure for some, these curved type are more comfortable.
The pool has a deep end, so most of the people congregate in the shallower end where they can stand. When there's a large group in the pool the one end can get rather crowded and noisy while the deep end is empty and the quieter end of the small pool and deck. The grounds are coming along too, not quite there yet, but you can see they're trying.
The afternoon snack is a nice feature, we enjoyed that.
WE LOVED THE NO-SMOKING RULE. That was terrific, no smoking anywhere on the property. I felt bad for the few people that had to put some clothes on every 90 minutes or so and go out to the parking lot to feed their habit, but we both commented on how nice it was not to have to smell it.
The no cell phone rules at other properties sort of perplexed us, until we sat at the new TCI listening to a woman talk very loudly to her daughter for 30 minutes about everything under the sun. It was almost as if she figured we all wanted to hear her conversation. It's not the cell phone's fault, but the user. I guess if you can't make courteousness a rule, you have to remove the phones altogether.
As has been said, I'm always glad there are more options rather than fewer options for a clothes-free getaway. I wish them all the best.

Thanks for the excellent report! Sounds like it was fairly full when you were there?

I'll agree with what was being said regarding some work that needed to be done to the new Terra Cotta Resort and Spa hotel but since the last post, we've returned twice and this last visit was for several days and nights. Unbelievable difference a few months make. John, the owner, has spent lots of money making improvements and those of you that visited last year, are in for a huge surprise if you return. Many more improvements are on the to do list. Many of those, some guests won't even realize until they've used them but the renovated pool and pool deck, planters made, dying grass removed and a more desert environment replaces much of the lawn around rooms and between buildings. The hot tub will be the next big project and will be 2-2.5 times it's current size, if I heard correctly.
Many of the rooms were undergoing some renovation and updating so maybe those rooms weren't available to use. Work goes on daily at the new Terra Cotta and you'll be surprised at the difference these past several months have made on this new place. It's certainly a place we will return to frequently, just like we did to TCI. John has some great ideas and with Tom and Mary Clare's direction and advice, Terra Cotta Resort and Spa hotel is going to be very successful!
Walking distance to downtown!!!
