Looks like the PRN has arrived in full force. What's up with the freighter?

PNR = Puerto Rican Navy - a slang term to describe a group of boat owners from Puerto Rico that make the crossing from PR to Virgin Gorda and raft together for a long weekend or extended stay at Savannah Bay. I first heard the term some 35 years ago one my first trip to VG.

I am here now and got the information on the freighter. It supplies the food, booze and fuel for the party. The scene is unreal. There are also at least a hundred cars parked along the road around savannah bay. I probably would have joined the party if we didn't have kids in tow.

Holy Cow! That ends the question if it's ok to get into S Bay! Look at the rafting and lines to the shore.
Smart about having their own freighter as a supply boat. Very impressive. If those folks were running the PR govt, the island would be in much better shape!

Sunday's at Savannah Bay is usually very busy, as that is when the local's have a joint day off and the party is on. We usually go to Savannah on a Tuesday or Thursday as sometimes there is no one there. Wednesday can also be a little crowded, being another day off.

Wow!! Although not our boat in the pic, on June 15 our Lagoon 52 overnighted in this precise spot, the only boat in Savannah Bay. Timing is, in fact, everything! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" /> [img][image] http://i65.tinypic.com/fk9shk.jpg[/img][/image]

So much for the reef there. Explains why it is ruined.

Our question at the time was how it could be that good given the periodic onslaught from dozens of boats. My question today is how do all those boats get in? We used the chart plotter, observers on the bow and the range rock, and still noted some pretty shallow water. Does the PRN have some special charts or traffic control memos?

Having lived through many PRN July 25th's I can honestly say that VG does not get very crowded when they are there - all confined to Savannah - mahoe will be empty

Must be very quiet in the Fajardo marinas these days.

I was there Sunday. What a rocking party. Danced with a couple of cute Puerto Rican kids and talked to many really nice people. Everyone was having fun and very kind and respectful. Over 400 boats. I'll post pics when I get home. The band was playing La Bomba and I was dancing with a cute kid and started doing the twist. He was so funny. Soon a whole group around us were twisting. It was hilarious. I'm sure some of them had no clue what it was.
