This girl needs to buy a lottery ticket....a VERY scary reminder of snorkeling and dinghy safety from Capt Rick, a youth sailor was just killed recently when a prop went over his mid section https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6wfS-SbE5g&feature=youtu.be

Wow, she was lucky. I feel sorry for that guy, too. He was definitely sorry it happened.

I was worried about her bare feet so close to the anchor chain on the bow before that accident happened.

Again not to blame or shame. But I recommend a diver down flag even while snorkeling, it makes you a little more visible. In Florida I'd say only 50% of boaters know what the red/white diver down flag means and even less know the Alpha Flag. However its better than nothing. All charter boats I've been on have one.

Wow ... this is the stuff nightmares are made of. If the bow is up, even just a little, you are going too fast!

Thank God it was only surface abrasions and not deep scratches. I hope she heals quickly. Still, that sort of injury can easily become infected and itch like the dickens.

Several years back, one of my charter clients ran over a German tourist with a dinghy (speeding) in an anchorage and seriously injured him with the prop. Like the nice person my client was, he tried to run and take his private plane to get out of the BVI. Happily, he and his exceptionally rude girlfriend were caught before they made it out of the country. I was able to warn my client not to try to leave the country (by phone) because I had already told the police they arrived by private plane and his plane was under surveillance. With no other option, he turned himself in.

Such a lovely couple. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" />

BVIboater, we fly our diver down flag on the port spreader, which would have been ineffective in this situation
