We are taking 2 first timer family members to SXM for a week in Oct. We are also meeting a ship where two more family first timers will join us for the day. This will be our fourteenth trip, so we have no shortage of ideas on how to spend the one day that the ship is in. Can someone tell me of a taxi and driver who is personable and has a big enough vehicle to comfortably take us wherever we decide to go, from pickup first thing in a.m. to delivery of our guests back to the ship and us back to La Plage in late afternoon. Does anyone know what this is likely to cost. Thanks for any info.

Contact TTOL sponsor Wilfred Brooks He is a very nice man, a very safe driver, and can highly recommend him! I honestly don't know on the price, maybe a wild a$$ guess of $120?? I have no idea on that.. Wilfred has a US phone number, so you can call him to get a price and make all the arrangements.

I did the same thing last year, as I picked up a family of 5 at the dock. I rented a van for a day, and we went off when we wanted and where without relying on anyone else. The van rental was less than a $100/day. JMHO

More power to you! I personally would be afraid to rent a van and figure out where to park it, even for a day!

I always rent a car and will be again this year from Leslie, but in this case we will be drinking at a few stops during the day, so I don't want to drive.

If you don't get an answer to the email, I'd try to call again.

Well, on your original post you did not state that you wanted to inbibe, hence to rent and drive yourself would be out of the question, and I would have given you a different answer, the one that you really wanted to have.

Driving is no more dangerous on the island than it is in an large US city, as you need to remember the key words defensive driving. Parking is not a problem as if you have a full size vehicle, parking a van is much easier.

Parking a van is easier than parking a full size vehicle? That one you will have to explain to me. As far as driving a van on island, that would make me nervous, because so many streets feel so narrow to me. Actually there is plenty of room if you are used to it, I guess, but I wouldn't want to either drive or park a van on island. As I said, good for you, that you feel that comfortable driving on island.

With a full size you can't easily judge the front ( where the engine is) and rear of the vehicle (where the trunk is), with a van, you are at the front of the vehicle and when looking thru your rear view mirror, you can see the rear of your vehicle, making it very easy to park.

Not arguing on either side here, but many years ago when we'd travel with our girls and a friend each we used to rent vans and we often had a hard time finding places to park in areas we wanted to go. The island was less developed then and side roads were overgrown. Today they're just over-vehicled so I would think that might still be a problem? We could rent a minimoke these days (if they still had them....) for just the two of us.......
