I have a JetBlue Mastercard..chip/sig like most US cards. I activated a PIN before leaving home assuming it was only for cash withdrawals (as reported by the phone agent) which I would never do.
Anyway, on the road tried at an the "A" route toll machine(because I went into the wrong lane <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />) and it worked...no PIN needed... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />
Then went to the supermarket and used it..worked ..sig required...at restaurant later...sig required
Then filled up on fuel at an unmanned supermarket petro station (no one behind me so it was comfortable)..it automatically switched to English and asked for my PIN (gulp)...entered PIN...it replied "PIN OK"..filled up and departed <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />
Traveled to another town and parked in an automated lot..no human...card/PIN/OK <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />
So...a chip/sig card CAN also be a chip/PIN card I guess
