You had a post a few months ago about a recipe (where you worked on LI) with turnips where you also added a sweet potato. With Thanksgiving coming up I would like to try it and others also. If you can post please do

I just take the turnips (make sure you buy them AFTER the first Hard Frost, they are sweeter then) and cube them...
Then boil til very tender... Drain of as much water as you can from the turnips...
(I mash them in a collander then let them sit for about an hour in the collander to drain well)...
add about 1 cooked (in the Nuke) yam or sweet potato for each 2 pounds of turnip...
and about 1/3 cup Honey...
adjust honey to your sweetness tastes...
mash it all up til like mashed potatos... a little on the "chunky side"... I use a hand masher...
I also add some nutmeg &/or Chinese 5 spice powder, &/or some ground allspice... to taste...
S&P to taste... (you really need a LITTLE salt to bring out all the flavors)...
spices are all up to you, as you like them... BUT don not overdo the spices, a little goes a long way! or you will overpower the dish...
Or even easier... add a can of yams in syrup, rather than fresh yams & honey...
(lately I do prefer using canned yams, better flavor IMO)...
YUMMMM!!! They are so good!
Bon Appetit

NP... the basic recipe came from The Modern Snack Bar in Aquebogue, LI, NY... way "out East" on the island...
if you look at the "take it home" menu... one quart of the mashed turnips is $7.95...
The turnips and the Lobster Salad are their signature dishes...
and they have GREAT Pies!!! Esp. the Lemon Marangue!

Not too long of a ride for a day trip from Rockville Center... (about 1 1/2 hours each way, with traffic)...
November is a great time out there... not crowded, and great fall veggies at the multitudes of Farm Stands (esp. the fresh turnips!)...
Also, it's the time of year when all the (48, or so) vineyards in Southold always have their special wine tasting events!
and lots of restaurants offer fresh Peconic Bay Scallops!
Greenport is a great place for lunch! Lots of really good restaurants on the water!

I think the first time I was at Claudio's was probably the mid fifties...
It is excellent and is the oldest, same family owned, restaurant in the US... 140 years! It's also on the National Historic Regester...
There's also Claudio's Clam Bar and Crabby Jerry's, out on each of the two piers Claudio's owns...
Both great places to pull up in the boat for some seafood and beers on a hot summer day...
Claudios is always filled with superboats, two and three deep, on weekends... mostly from The Hamptons and Connecticut...
