I have several friends coming down in July and some of their passports expire in January, 2018...will they have problems getting into the BVI?

Technically, no, but in the BVI there have been different results. There are other threads on this. Best advice is to have your friends renew their passports now, even if they have to pay for expedited service. Much better than being refused entry into the BVI.

why not renew, you have to renew anyway, waiting for last minute?

Walker, I was sternly warned about the 6 month requirement by no other than a BVI immigration official. He made it very clear that I was lucky getting in. Their policy states 6 months of availability from entry to ensure passage back to the homeland.

I came in twice with a passport that was to expire in less than 6 months. Not a word was said to me either time about it.

The BVI does consider a passport with only 6 months left on it to be expired but they hardly ever reject anyone as long as they're not staying longer then the date of expiration.

The same misinformation gets spread every time this comes up.

Passport must be valid at time of entry - that's it.

I knew someone who had a passport going to expire 5 days after they RETURN home from the BVIs. So they applied and received a new one. The night before their flight to BVI their Labrador chewed up the new Passport. Long story short they were told by US Passport agency in St Thomas they could provide the necessary paperwork to enter BVI. They basically applied for another passport and was assured it would work. BVI officials didn't recognize the paperwork, but entry stamped the hole punched, "voided" passport (presented to them as a last resort) without issue..."because it wasnt going to expire until after departure in 10 days".... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />
