We just book a VW Polo or similar through Rentalcars.com for $530 for 31 days in August. This includes liability, my Capital One CC covers collision for up to 31 days. The company they put us with is Sixt. Have not used them before, we'll see. Anyone used Sixt?

Hi. I made this it's own thread. Never heard of that company, not that that means anything.

Sixt is new in the Caribbean and the US, but established in Europe. I haven't noticed them on SXM before, but they bought out an agency on St Barth a few years ago.

I have no idea if the SXM Sixt operation is a franchise or a company-owned operation.

I've seen them for several years on the road next to the airport where all the other rental companies are. They're not new.

I have used sixt three times for local rentals south of Boston... They bought out local small family owned Verc rentals. Prices and vehicles are Spot On....

Month of August? That's a nice quiet time to visit the island, but also a good time to have protected yourself with travel insurance. I'll be interested in hearing about your experience with Sixt.

We have used them several times in other cities and they are good.

H O W E V E R, we booked them on SXM only once and we couldn't find their shuttle at the airport and eventually took a cab and skipped the rental got the whole trip.

I would get clear directions from them where their shuttle will be, how often and if someone in the airport is willing to call them. No one at all those desks seemed to know anything about SIXT except go out to the shuttle area for ,

I've used SIXt before (not in SXM) and thought I had a great deal until I found out they charge a fee for services normally provided by other agencies. I went through with the rental and was fortunate that I didn't have any problems. Roadside assistance was one of the items that bothered me....if I rent a car I expect that service at the very least.

We used them in Germany a couple of years ago. At the airport pickup they didn't have time to show us how to use the GPS as we requested. We never did get it to work.

When we returned our rental I knew we had a problem when I observed the folks ahead of us having the closest inspection of a rental car I have ever seen. I was right. They found damage on our car as well as the previous car. We know we had not done any damage during our two week rental.

We fought the charges with the credit card company (AMEX) to no avail. To make a long story semi short, we are deep sixing Sixt.

You are not the first one in this thread to talk about an experience other than in SXM. However, I have to say that an experience OTHER THAN in SXM is not particularly relevant. It's like asking about Hertz or Dollar in the US..

We used SIXT about four years ago when our reserved vehicle was no longer available. As I remember, it was a very nice new white car at a reasonable price and included insurance. I guess I've never considered road side assistance for a rental car--don't even have it on the car at home.

The reservation says "A Sixt representative will meet you in the arrival hall holding a Sixt sign." Hope it's true.

we've used Sixt in SXM and St. Barths several times with great results, and is our go to rental agency...had no problem finding shuttle bus driver at SXM airport for short ride to their office...they've also worked with us when having to return a car before their office was open, allowing us to leave the car in the airport parking lot

and this doesn't have anything to do with Sixt, but i noticed you said you used rentalcars.com...while we start our travel planning with third party travel sites (ie. kayak, booking.com, rentalcars.com, etc.), we usually use those sites solely for informational purposes...after we get an idea of prices for hotels and cars, we then go directly to the vendors' own sites for the actual bookings...besides the greater peace of mind we get by avoiding a third party, we also sometimes get additional discounts from the vendors' websites...for example, if you sign up on Sixt's website before booking, you get an additional 5% savings on rentals...and then if you get to Sixt's website by first going through Ebates, Ebates will give you a 4% rebate....just stuff to consider, as YMMV

I checked booking direct with Sixt online for the same car & coverage. The price came up as $649 while I'm paying $530 through rentalcars.com. Guess you have to check it both ways.

We have used Sixt a few times in SXM. A representative holding a Sixt sign would be outside of the arrivals hall. We did not use them in March but did notice they had a booth inside of the terminal at the end beside the exit that is on your right as you leave the terminal. I am not sure it is always "manned' but there is a phone you can use to call them. We never had any problems with Sixt. The cars were always quite new and we often received a free upgrade. The only reason we changed was price. In March and again for our upcoming trip in July we are using Triple A.
