Heading down this Tuesday, have to pick a carrier, BVI Digicel or BVI Lime. Is one better than the other? Thanks! EckyEcky

Roaming plans just keep getting better and better. AT&T and Verizon have $10 a day plans that give you exactly what you already have in the states. T Mobil is free roaming. I do not see the upside in wasting valuable vacation time tilting at windmills with cell phone companies.

I used the $10 a day plan from my AT&T and it worked great while I was down last month.

...you are only charged if you actually use your service - so on the days I just kept it in airplane mode and used wi-fi, no charge.

Using our stateside Sprint phones, $.20/min voice, pay as you go, no other charge. Just changing settings and have to pick a carrier. I can try both, but I'd rather just start with the "perceived" better carrier and forget about it. Thanks again!

I have been here ten years. There is no "better" carrier. The tower will either work or not like most things here. If you can see St John it is likely you will pick up Sprint from there.
Enjoy your trip.

OK... unlocked gsm phone with a DigiCell or Flow/Lime SIM card, should I add a prepaid ATT SIM card. 20 years ago it was easier!

Yes, I was able to use data -- I had my exact same plan at $10/day.

I have an unlocked phone that we use as a "boat phone" and get the SIM cards for so we have a BVI number -- but on this next trip, I'm traveling with the people I call all the time anyway <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" />

We have verizon and I used the $10 day plan without issue last summer. If I remember correctly, the phone initially hooked me into CCT Boatphone, which was pretty much garbage, but once I manually switched to digicell no problem and I was able to stream music everywhere all week. I was down two weeks ago with Verizon Wireless at $10 per day. Used data with almost no problem (the Bight was a little spotty), including as a hot spot for multiple devices. 24 hour period and no charge if you don't use it (turn cell data off). Got a text message everyday that 24 hour period ended in an hour and would renew if I kept using.

Ditto what Bridget said. I used the $10/day plan from AT&T. Worked great! Used Data and Voice the whole 2 weeks we were there. No extra charges when we got home. Fun part: text your kids, family, friends when you're at Soggy Dollar and tell them to pull up the webcam - then go wave at them! :-)

CottageGirl... What was coverage like for you throughout the week? Did you have service in all the main anchorages? Any coverage out on the water while you were running around during the day, or just on/close to shore? Thanks in advance!

MileHigh, the AT&T signal is pretty good on all western faces anchorages. You will also get signals on the Drake, it drops off as you approach VG. We used a Lime sim card in a MIFI device and got reception when we lost AT&T
