Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and planning our first family trip to the BVI. I've been reading the forums for a couple weeks just to get caught up on what has changed since my last BVI visit. I'm embarrassed to admit that was 2005 or so. Back in 2005 we would generally start in Road Town on Saturday morning and immediately sail to GH JVD and drop anchor. Then dinghy to Soggy Dollar to get into vacation mode. Then dinner at Foxy's Beach BBQ. Then after a week of doing the loop, end up Friday night at Foxy's again. After reading these forums and looking at the web cam at Foxy's it seems like Foxy's isn't a fun place anymore. (Thankfully there were no webcams back when we were there)
So is Leverick Bay the fun beach party now? Or Am I just looking at the Foxy's webcam too late? Also, do we not just dinghy into the Baths anymore? People are renting cars and driving? Did someone rope off the sea? Thanks to all the folks who take their time to post for part timers like me. Thanks, Robert

I guess a good place to start is when are you going?
With respect to the baths, you can no longer take the dinghy to shore. It is roped off indeed.
During the months when a swell is running, your better off going by car.
If the wate is reasonably calm, you can take the dinghy to the line, tie off and swim in.
Leverick has a nice BBQ and dinner Friday nights. It is not running during part of the off season. I don't know about foxy's.
I suspect that there a many more moorings than at the time of your last trip. You are probably not going to drop anchor in many places.
Good luck.

We've done the BBQ at Foxy's before and Leverick many times. They are both good as far as food is concerned - Leverick is the better deal though - it was all you can eat where Foxy's was one trip. Leverick has the Jumbies as well.
As far as the baths go - our first few trips we always picked up a mooring ball. Then we started renting a car. Much better way to do it in my opinion. You can see so much more of the island and its great views and spend as much time as you want at the baths (mooring balls are 90 minute limit). We've also seen people trying to swim in when conditions are difficult - saw one woman who might have drowned if not for her husband, although he was having a very hard time as well. I also find it is one of the few places where you can rent a car - so it breaks things up from the usual grab a ball and swim in, which is a nice change sometimes. We've taken a lot of friends there that way for their first time and they all love it.

We've never done Foxy's BBQ, but we LOVE the Leverick BBQ and jumbie party. Food was delicious, service was wonderful and the entertainment can't be beat.
As for the Baths, we done it both ways. My suggestion if you swim in from the dinghy line - bring your snorkel fins. It's a tough swim and fins make it just a tiny bit easier. Renting a car though is a great idea - you'll be able to use it for more than just the Baths. A highlight of our trip to VG was Hog Heaven (accessible by car or taxi) - the food & drinks are great and the views spectacular. Enjoy!!

We rented a car and drove to the Baths. It started raining and as a result, we had the entire place to ourselves. Also, during the walk down to the Baths from the parking lot, I couldn't help noticing the unique smell of the vegetation there. And friends on previous trips made mention of one of their crew nearly drowning trying to swim in from a ball. I'd say, rent the car. And Nick is a great guy to meet!

The reason Foxy's is one trip through is they try and have the food fairly fresh. The meats will be cooking on the grill as you arrive. The Mahi is almost right off the grill to your plate. They give you two plates to go through the line with. I had several football players over 240 and they had no trouble getting plentry of food! G

Thank you all for your suggestions. Warren, you are correct, more information would be helpful. We are chartering Moonshine from Captain's Compass from 6/12 to 6/20. The kids are 13 and 11 and know how to sail but have never been further on a sail boat than Key West to Bahia Honda. It's nice there, but there aren't many choices when the weather gets rough.
I'm working up a loose itinerary but, other than Leverick, Anegada, and the soggy dollar we are just going to wing it. Now if I can just figure out how to get into this D&D club! Thanks, Robert
