It always bugs me when the Daily Herald prints pictures like that one.

It is rather disturbing at times. Wendell and I witnessed a scooter/vehicle accident early one morning. It kind of gives you a sick feeling but sadly, you can't fix stupid.

I agree jazzgal. They should be able to deliver the message to the readers without having to show such graphic photos. That photo will haunt the family for a long time.

I think similar photos used to appear in US papers but due to sensitivity, they have backed off.
Way back when, drivers education/training classes used to include some pretty gruesome pictures and videos. The idea was to get people taking the course to THINK about the consequences of being in or causing an accident.
It is a St. Maarten newspaper and apparently, it is still acceptable there. Not our call to make.

This year the scooters are worse than ever. I agree about the sensitivity issue....but also feel maybe if some of the lunatics driving in and out of traffic so recklessly see pictures like this...maybe....just maybe...they will stop and reconsider their antics. We witnessed last week, two idiots on two different scooters.....holding each others bikes...while going up one of the steep hills.....It was an accident just waiting to happen. These scooter drivers have no fear and total disregard of the car drivers. As JD stated, i am amazed this doesnt happen on an everyday basis.

I cannot even imagine how the guy/girl driving the truck feels. I am sure this will haunt him or her for the rest of their lives.

We went to Grand Case for dinner that night the main road was blocked off with the drag race, it was absolutely crazy we had many motorcycles passing us swerving in and out of traffic, it's funny we mentioned that we couldn't believe there's not a lot more fatalities. We would have never gone if we knew the race was going on!

I guess that's why they are called death cycles. Have seen several close calls in last 10 days. Sad

We were on the island, last week, and had several close calls with scooters weaving in and out of traffic.
I call them donorcycles - especially those who ride without helmets.
