I am looking for recommendations for roller Duffle bags that meet Carry On limits. Primary use will be to traveling to BVI and I am trying to maximize travel (wheels) and collapsable for storage on boat. Quality important .
Any recommendations appreciated.

We have looked long and hard and found that this just doesn't exist, so perhaps someone else has had better luck. In many stores the collapsing part is the issue that confuses people, it needs to be semi rigid to fit into the bag sizing boxes. We never had storage issues on our boats, most boats have "long term" storage under the bunks. But if you store under the bunks use Damp Rid or you will get mildew.

Backpacks are as close as we have gotten.

I'm going to make what will seem an odd suggestion: Desoto Triathlon Transition Pack. I bought my 2014 version for its designed purpose, but have used it a ton for travel as both carry on and checked baggage.

It holds a ton of stuff, has a lot of ways to separate and organize stuff and, for some reason, the transition design features seem to translate well to charter traveling.

It works great and the quality is top notch. I have no affiliation with Desoto other than I own a bunch of their gear and have interacted with their owner a few times on a multi sport forum I frequent.

Curious as to how well that roller duffel collapses for storage on board.

<img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" /> I am guessing if Chris and Tracey own them? They collapse just fine <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Have never known them to bring anything down that doesn't work well on a boat <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

LL Bean has an excellent carry on sized rolling duffle that durable and folds flat.
It's called the Adventure Rolling Duffle
It comes in many sizes and colors but the Medium is the carry on size
23"X11"X11" I and many friends have used them.
Storing them onboard is no <a href="problhttps://www.bing.com/cr?h=SJkFgg1e16BVPqDyipSVSpF-ZOcURdnuQKNG3rJiwow&v=1&r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.llbean.com%2Fllb%2Fshop%2F63915%3Fpage%3Dadventure-rolling-duffle-medium&IG=F4FDC331764947D1BE160AAA0C0329B2&CID=2C7F2AB9335C65AF0C742253375C66FA&p=SERP" target="_blank">problhttps://www.bing.com/cr?h=SJkFgg1e16BVPqDyipSVSpF-ZOcURdnuQKNG3rJiwow&v=1&r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.llbean.com%2Fllb%2Fshop%2F63915%3Fpage%3Dadventure-rolling-duffle-medium&IG=F4FDC331764947D1BE160AAA0C0329B2&CID=2C7F2AB9335C65AF0C742253375C66FA&p=SERP</a>,5128.1em $99.00 each

This looks almost too good to be true - has a $30 suitcase held up for 10 years?
I'm looking for a new carry on for both the BVI's and Europe travel (planes, trains, etc)

I am considering retiring my old rolling duffle and came across these. Anyone seen or used them?

I've had the same one for the last 10 years + that I got at Marshall's and it's held up -- the key is to not overstuff duffels...mine has finally started to protest <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" /> and I'm tired of looking at the duct tape so time for a new one!

I can't claim 10 years, but the one I bought 3 years ago has seen some significant use and is still holding up perfectly

We just replaced ours after 5 years with roughly 4-6 BVI trips and 5 others a year.

Yes Rick they're great.
They're also water resistant so not a problem in the dinghy and you can store three of them in the space of one rectangular bag.

I know it doesn't have wheels, but I went with a Patagonia Black Hole 45L duffel bag. It holds a lot, water resistant, tough, and collapses down to nothing. If you don't pack it to the brim you can carry it on airlines.

I have the same one (and in that beautiful purple, too!) in three or four different sizes. The carryon still looks brand new. The larger ones that have been checked are a little beat up after 10ish trips, but I haven't replaced them yet. For the price, they're a great deal.

And, when I traveled with Chris and Tracy it was pretty funny that we all had matching bags in different colors, totally unplanned wink

Was wondering if anyone who ordered the 32.00 (or so) rolling duffle from Amazon received one that smelled funny. Almost a wet boat smell..musty. I ordered one and have had mine airing outside for a few days and it has not dissipated.
Thinking about buying another and returning this one. I did see some comments on Amazon of people experiencing this. If yours had an oder....did it ever go away? Maybe mine came from a smelly batch

It's probably mildew and anything you store in it will smell also.
Send it back.

Wes... what color did you get out of curiosity....I recorded a black one to see if I maybe had a fluke one. Thought black might be more popular...inventory movement. Did you get through Amazon?

I ordered the $32 one from Amazon; no weird smell. Used it on our boat trip last month - loved it! Using it in a few weeks for a 10 day trip to Europe. I actually measured the inside volume and compared it against my old carry on suitcase - more room in this one! Only "complaint" is that there are 2 small zippered pouches on each side - they don't hold much so if they redesigned it to make one long pouch on each side it'd be more useful. And I ordered a red one - much easier to spot in a sea of black suitcases.

I agree ... I do wish the pockets on the side were combined into longer ones. Works ok for socks/underwear/swimsuits though. I'm very happy with mine smile

I just got the 2nd one I ordered to replace the smelly one...this one is fine! I read on Amazons reviews that every now and than a smelly one pops up...glad I did a return and reorder as I really like the bag.

Question for those of you using the Olympia 22" bag mentioned in this thread. I'm ordering 4 of these. Have you ever had issues with airlines refusing to allow it as a carry on? That seems to be a common complaint on Amazon. This bag is over the carry-on allowance by 3" (depth). If I be sure not to over pack, will it work?
