not surprising and in a way actually funny. I would be willing to bet it is methane buildup. Every go by a landfill and see the metal pipe and hose sticking up all over it. That is a methane relief and capture system.

Yes, but we are talking SXM and not what we are used to seeing in the US. Not unusual to see gas burning off at various other places but not a raging fire of tires and trash.

60,000 tires? The only thing to do with them is to ship them off-island for recycling.
