Maybe on wrong forum but I guess enough of the members here have needed to stay one night in CA before flying out? Our flight is leaving 8:30 AM and we will have been in the BVIs sailing for 7 days and staying in a house on Tortola for another 4.

Decided to extend our stay by one night and leave on the 4th of July as the drop in ticket price is huge (over $300 per ticket w/ 6 travelling = big bucks!)

Anyway all that to say is that we are looking for a nice, place in CA to do some shopping and get some dinner before we depart early the next morning. Imagine that we won'tbe getting to CA until mid afternoon on the ferry from Tortolla.

So far choices are
- Bunker Hill Hotel
- Windward Passage
- Galleon House

Some of the comments stating that galleon house is not in a nice neighbourhood... so although seems like the best deal. not so sure.

Thoughts, comments, suggestion?

I really don't have an answer for you at this time. We have only spent one last night in St. Thomas as we used to take a reliable, now maybe not, ferry from Roadtown to Charlotte Amalie. Last May, worried about missing our flight due to ferry issues we booked Windward Passage. It was OK, and the room, while not having a great view, was only $160., which was cheaper than Marriott Frenchmans Reef, for instance. This year, however, rooms went way over that. Windward Passages web page had a price posted for two at $124. I called direct, that price was denied, and I was informed that one night for two would be $240. So, I started looking, checking in here and online, and decided, since it is just one night, we booked the Island Beachcomber near the airport at $140. for two with a waterfront view this coming May. After we get home I will post a review. Some folks said yes to the Beachcomber, others said maybe, or no. But, I think some of them were staying in the USVI for vacation, not just one night. We'll see what happens...

Check prices for "Emerald Beach Resort"..5 mins from the airport..if they are reasonable..and they do fluctuuate wildly, that is always our number one choice with a dinner in nearly Frenchtown..preferably at " Oceana"..

We've been staying at Windward passage for several times now. We used go stay near the airport on Lindbergh Bay, but we have had enough beach time these days when going home. An easy walk across the street from ferry terminal.

I agree Oceanis is a favorite. last week coming home they could not get us in until late so we went to Room With A View at Bluebeards Castle. It was one of the better dining experiences in last couple years.

You could also look at Island Beachcomber -- same beach as Emerald resort closer to the airport.
Green Iguana is a very good option worth checking out.
Island View Guest house and Mafolie Hotel are also good alternatives.
Bunker Hill and Galleon House are very close to each other if you are considering neighborhoods.

We had a similar schedule and stayed at the Mafolie last year. It was great. Pool was wonderful, views magnificent and the onsite restaurant superb. Very relaxing last night of vacation and they do a real breakfast i n the morning, although you might have to be up and out before it's available.

Emerald Beach Resort - if you can get a good rate.

Island Beachcomber is not as nice but we have stayed there too.

We're staying at Emerald Beach for one night pre-charter next month. They matched a $201/night rate I found on Tripadvisor. That's for a king size bed, ocean view.

I always get a better rate by calling and asking for a manager.

If available, Olgas Fancy in Frenchtown. Stayed there a few weeks ago, it was great.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We have stayed at Frenchman's reef the previous two trips as our last destination both times two days before flying out. This acted as our decompression stop before flying back to reality!

This time our decompression stop will be on Tortola for 4 days and I think by that time my wife will be all beached out. Having said that the choices in CA do not seem that appealing. My high standards are fighting with my stingy side as to how much I want to spend for what will amount to a bed to sleep in prior to flying out.

Right now I am leaning towards the Windward passage as the one that offers a basic standard for service and safety and its positioning right across the street from the ferry Dock an extra bonus. Right now seeing prices for $145Cn.

We love both Emerald Beach and Mafolie! Emerald Beach is a great place to kick off a vacation - nice beach and bar. We just stayed at Mafolie for the first time in January and decided to stay one night at the end of our May trip as well. The pool is great and the balcony rooms have a beautiful view of the harbor. Plus, the food and drinks at the restaurant were very good so there's no need to leave the hotel until you head to the airport.

We just returned last week and book-ended our trip with nights on STT. If your stay lands on a Thur, Fri or Sat., my vote is for Island View Guest House. Stunning views, very clean rooms, wonderful owners and Ron will grill you the best rib-eye ever ( but only on the above nights ). I think our room was $165 with tax. On our way back we stayed at Olga's fancy in Frenchtown ( it was a Tues. so no dinner at IVGH). The rooms were awesome...decorated all island-y and the bed was SUPER comfortable. It was a 3 minute walk to restaurants/bars and only about another 15-20 minutes walk into CA..for shopping if you're interested. My only caution for Olga's is there are several flights of stairs if you're schlepping luggage smile Happy Travels!

We stayed at Olga's in February. While it is a cab ride to the airport, it is a walk from the ferry dock. It was a great value. Rooms were recently renovated, and the woman who runs the place could not have been nicer. Great views, and it is right next door to Oceana, a wonderful place for dinner. In the morning, walk a block or so to the Frenchtown Deli for breakfast. If Olga's has rooms available, book one!
