You guys are such a wealth of info!

First of all, is there a chart somewhere that lists distances that I can translate into travel times between various points in BVI? Some of my point to points I have an idea, others I'm less sure of, like Marina Cay to Monkey Point to Cane Garden Bay to Green Cay.

I'd also love to get people's opinion on our overall itinerary. We'll be on a Moorings 4800 for 2 weeks. I know this is only an idea, and except for the days we have diving scheduled we know we may have to or want to deviate but I'd like to have an idea to start.

Saturday, May 27 arrive in BVI, spend night on boat in harbor
Sunday 28, Roadtown to Cooper Island
Monday 29, scuba in morning, Salt Island in afternoon, spend second night at Cooper
Tuesday 30, dive Rhone in morning, sail to east end of Tortola in afternoon, possibly Bluff Bay
Wednesday 31, Bluff Bay to Baths, anchor overnight in Savannah Bay
Thurs June 1, Savannah Bay to snorkel at the Dogs, Mountain Pt or Mosquito Island, overnight in North Sound (probably moor at Levericks)
Fri June 2, dive in morning, spend second night in North Sound
Sat 3, North Sound to Anegada
Sun 4, second night in Anegada
Monday 5, Anegada to Marina Cay
Tuesday 6, Marina Cay to Cam Bay or Lee Bay to Monkey Pt to Brewers Bay to Cane Garden Bay
Wed 7, Cane Garden Bay to Sandy Cay to Green Cay
Thur 8, Green Cay to circle Great Tobago to overnight in White Bay
Fri 9, second night somewhere on Jost
Sat 10, Jost to Norman
Sun 11, Norman to Peter for snorkeling back to Roadtown
Mon 12, leave BVI

Thanks everyone!
Suzanne

Brewers Bay is generally marked off limits to charter boats due to cables and the reef. You can cab over from CDB.

We will be down May 20- June 6th so maybe we will see you around. May 28th is Leverick Bay Poker run...just to let you know you may see many fast speed boats in the Drake on your way up to Cooper on Sunday. They all leave at 11 AM from Leverick . Very exciting but not sure I would want to be sailing among them. This is the route .

George, Thanks for the heads up. As I said we know we may have to or want to change our itinerary, but it's nice to know ahead of time if there might be a problem so I can at least make a note of it.

Kim, Thanks for this board I was aware of Poker Run (wasn't before that). Our original itinerary had us snorkeling at the Indians and going to Norman the first day, until I saw there were going to be tons of speedboats around. Thus, the two nights at Cooper instead.

Thanks everyone! Keep the opinions coming.

Check the weather before anchoring overnight at Savannah Bay. Very narrow anchorage between coral reefs and boats have washed ashore during storms. I still have pictures of the ruins of that big catamaran all busted to pieces on shore, with the engine and generator about fifteen feet offshore and clothing wrapped around fan coral. Sad.

Personally, I think the Baths is much more fun by car. It is a whole different experience (have breakfast at top of the baths before heading down) and you get to see a lot more and take your time (there is a 90 minute time limit on the moorings - even though many ignore it - 2 hours is reasonable if things are full).

I'd also avoid Savannah bay if the water is churned up at all - you really need good visibility going in there. It is actually a great stop while touring virgin gorda.

Tuesday the 6th you might be trying to fit a little too much in.. especially if the stop at Brewer's Bay is for a dive. With a good size group, a stop always takes us longer then you'd think.

Another thing to keep in mind is topping up on water. Without making a stop specifically for it, your first chance for water isn't until Thursday. There are places you could certainly go that aren't much out of the way, but it is something to think about.

When you'll need water, really depends on how many people on the boat and how much they conserve. If you have your own dive gear and will snorkel and otherwise be in and out of the water a lot, expect usage to be higher as you rinse gear and rinse yourself off.
