Knowing how the winds are in Simpson Bay today, I am guessing Orient is really howling today. Anybody have an update? Thought about heading that way tomorrow but may have to rethink that idea.

VERY windy here today. Most of the umbrellas are closed. Been like this the last two days, and from looking at the airport forecast, will be for a while. We've been sitting up around our studio.

I think somebody started another thread that said it was going to be rather windy the week of Regatta. Since these winds are from the east, it may be windier on the east side of the island?
Must have just been blowing hot air? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

The beach talk is that tomorrow Thursday will be very windy over here. maybe a few scatterd showers but as usual on Orient it can change in an instant. Todays wind was a bit strong but we where not sand blasted like it can get. I post in the morning if anybody is thinking of heading over.

It was very windy at Orient today, and the waves were rolling pretty good. The boogie boarders were having fun. There was also more seaweed blowing in than we saw last week.
The windsurfers and kite surfers were flying, although the rental guys had to go out and rescue a couple of them when they went down and couldn't get back up again. I had to keep cleaning my glasses because the wind kept coating them with the salt in the air, so I could hardly see to read my book! Our umbrellas were heavy enough and angled that they stayed in place, but I gave up on keeping my straw hat on.
We had lunch at LaPlaya and really appreciated that they had the clear plastic windscreens to create some shelter.

You haven't seen anything yet. Wait until next week, starting Monday and for most of the week! The wind and waves are really coming! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />
The two calmest days this week will probably be Saturday and Sunday, but still enough wind for the Regatta.

Saw the forecast for even higher winds in the next several days. Since, it appears the wind is coming from the east (heading west), does anyone know if the beaches on the west side of the island (Happy Bay,Baie Rouge, Baie Prunes) would be a better bet for the next week? Thanks!

How about today, Tuesday March 7? Trying to get the webcam to load but slow internet is not allowing it to happen.
Thanks.

We were in SXM for three weeks and the last week of our stay from 2/26-3/5 was extremely windy, so windy at Zafiro Beach that we were constantly hit in the face with sand and couldn't use the umbrellas. The first two weeks of our trip were fine.

20 to 25 knot winds from the East-Northeast with 5 to 6 foot waves.
The winds are going to be like this until Friday.
Camera on Orient probably blew away! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

We left SXM on Sunday, and felt very wind blown on Orient the entire last week. (We stay in Orient). We explored a few other beaches and found Grand Case to be quite protected from the wind. I really enjoy GC during the day. Of course, Le Galion is always a respite from the Orient winds and still very close to Orient. We walk there from the south end (Club O end) of Orient Bay.
