I just returned from two fun filled weeks in SXM. It was sort of a busy vacation, because I am moving back the first of June, so I had to find a house, get my daughter registered for school, etc. I wanted to share a couple of observations:
ORIENT BEACH - looked beautiful, although in the last few days it appears as if some of the sand may be going again in front of Pedro's. The beach was crowded on big cruise days and tons of fun, as always.
NIGHTLIFE - Bliss at the Caravanserai is the new hot spot and is a very interesting place. It boasts what I think is St. Maarten's first martini bar - I'm usually happy with a Carib, but the Bliss Passion martinis are worth a try. Thursday nights are hopping, and I heard the weekend nights are as well. This may be why Cheri's didn't have the usual pre-Q Club crowd, who knows.
Restaurants - There's a new spot in town on Cannegeiter (sp?) Street called Cafe 0101. It just opened on Monday. It might be a good spot to try if you're in town shopping or passing through in the evening. We just had the shrimp brochette as a snack in the evening, but it was wonderful. It has a beautiful wooden bar and a very nice atmosphere. Some of you Pedro's fans will want to stop in and say hi to Nate, who was the bartender at Pedros for years. He's there in the evening from 7 to 12.
ISLAND IN GENERAL - the island looks great, especially after last week's rain. There was quite a bit of traffic, so I don't think the season was as bad as everyone feared. All in all, SXM is still the best!!!
