The robbery took place this past Saturday around 1:30 pm per police. We just got back last week and had actually walked Front Street past this location when we were in town. The link to the article provides some detail as well as a link to actual footage of the robbery. I love this Island as we go 2 times a year but this is just crazy.

Wow, that's so scary. I read the story earlier but didn't see the link to the video. The story said that the robber waived at the camera. It looked like to me the robber waived at the person headed up the stairs. It might be interesting to know who that person is.

Looked like the person on the stairs that he waved to was hiding to protect himself. Looks like they had plenty of time to grab what they wanted before any police or security presence. But there again the security can't be armed like the criminals are.

Wow! Didn't look like they were worried about getting caught in the act and took their time with the heist.

It must be the slowest responding police force on the face of the earth.

They need a second police office location in Phillipsburg. They used to have bike cops, but I know one was shot and killed during a jewelry heist, not sure if they are still using them. I would like to think the jewelry stores would be willing to pay for a better police presence there.

The jewelery store people said the security people at the jewelery stores aren't allowed to carry arms. Do you know which is correct?
Thanks

Perhaps I'm wrong and Scubaman may have more up-dated information than me, but my understanding is they CAN NOT carry fire arms. Anybody know with absolute certainty?

Perhaps I missed it, but I don't know that anyone here said that security people ARE allowed to carry guns. I think you mis-read Scubaman's post.

Carol,

You are absolutely correct - I definitely did misread Scubaman's post. That one missed word on my part makes all the difference in the world. Sorry, Scubaman, and my sincere apologies to you.

Respectfully,

pat

The police force is a joke. Front street is maybe a mile long put foot cops on a two block post every 5 blocks put a cop on a motor bike. use undercover cops to walk the street during high traffic times DJ <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/usflag.gif" alt="" />
