Not in SXM, but Amazon can do next day delivery and you can easily transfer books.

i assume you're already in SXM, but if not, and you don't want to mess with shipping from Amazon if time is an issue, you can just walk into a Best Buy, Target, etc. and pick one up off the shelf

I'm pretty sure from the post that the original poster is already on island.

Blue Point on Walter A Nisbeth Road carries the Amazon Fire (on sale for $79 this week according to the facebook page). You might check there and see if they sell the kindle as well.

Amazon fire has the Kindle app and you can transfer your Kindle books to the fire.

Again, I think the poster is on island. Amazon does no good.

The fire is an amazon product that is sold at stores. Blue point on Walter A Nisbeth Road (sxm) has them on sale.

If you have an iPhone or iPad , just to get you through the trip, there's a Kindle app that would sync to her Kindle library.

I couldn't read on a Fire with polarized sunglasses. It has been awhile so maybe they changed the screen. The cheapest Kindle worked just fine.

Yes, we are on the island. I have the Kindle fire and have
the app on my laptop. Neither work well laying on the beach because of the screen glare.
Oh well, I guess she'll just have to put up with my Fire for the next few weeks!
Thanks for the responses.

Many places on island have book lending libraries of old fashioned REAL books. She could try that.

I still use my very old original version Kindle and find it to be the best around for all purpose (location?) usage. I also have the cover with the built in light and still find this model to be the best for reading on the beach or at the pool, and even for reading in bed. No problem with glare or fade. When 'it' decided to take a dip in the pool I looked at all the options available and finally replaced it with basically the same thing and at about half the cost of the original purchase.

My wife's kindle was one of the old ones with the matte finish screen. Amazon still sells a basic one with a matte screen. Will get one when we return to the states.
We've used some of the lending libraries before and will this time also.
