Any ideas for a good place to go for dinner the first night we arrive? We are doing a sleep aboard at The Moorings. We loved C&F on our last visit (WAY too long ago-2006), but I haven't seen much recent information. Looking for something like that-good local food, casual, not too far. Or, confirmation that C&F is still there, and is still delicious.

I would recommend Sharkys Cantina at the BVI Yacht Club... good vibe and good food.

This is my opinion only. By the time you get aboard the boat you will find everyone pretty tired and very hungry if traveling from the US in the same day. Head to the Moorings pool, order a painkiller, ask for the bar menu, take a dip in the pool and eat.
If you are already there or have more stamina then my group your dinghy should be attached to the bow of the boat. You can run across the harbor to the downtown area where there are lots of options.

Capriccio opposite the ferry dock is our go to place for great pizza and pasta..casual, good and reasonable..

But, the pizza at sharkys is outstanding and worth the extra distance.

Thank you all. GeorgeC1, this is the first time we have done an evening aboard, so never even thought of using the dinghy. Sharky's and Capriccio both look great, and the idea of just limin' at the pool sounds pretty good, too. As an aside, we were heading down to the BVIs very frequently in the late '90s through 2006, and and during those years, I used a lot of advise from both of you, Manpot and GeorgeC1. I am very happy to see you both still active on the forum.

Very glad to be of service..IMHO..the pizza and pasta at Capriccio are the best in the area...glad to hear Sharkeys is still good but , must say, we had some food by the pool at The Moorings and it was not great.Things seem to be in a constant state of flux right now..went to one of our all time favorite restaurants the other night. After a ninety min wait to owner told us our order was in..after 2 hours and ten minutes we left without our food when an honest waitress told us there were still two large orders ahead.On our way out I informed the owner that I did not appreciate belng lied to..wonder if we will ever return and that's a crying shame. Tnank goodness we got to The Sugar Mill and received great food at the bar in 15 minutes...

I wouldn't count on the dingy being with the boat the night before. If I recall, they bring 'em over in the morning.

But totally agree with George, group will be tired and more likely ready for drink and sleep after travel day and early up for next day.

A 'best-kept secret' place to have dinner is the restaurant upstairs at the Sports Club right across the road from the moorings. A 5 minute walk, max. Go to the traffic lights and straight over the junction into the quiet road. It's about 50m on your right. The food is decent (a lot better than the Moorings, imo) and the prices very reasonable.

The dinghy should be on the boat. There are times in the peak season when they run out and bring one in the morning. It's been there two of my last 3 trips and the time it was not there the boat was missing also! The pool food is fine if you ask for the bar menu. The burgers and fish sandwich will work. If you want good food you can go to Charlie's right on the dock however it's pricey and probably not what's wanted after a long day of travel. If you want to go out Frank Ferrell is a great driver. His number is 284 543 1114. i use him for everything on the island. Always on time and reliable!

Ditto on C&F.
Went there first night from Moorings in 2013, got in too late in 2015.

Last trip advisor review was back in 2014.

I was told C&F is now closed. It seems to come and go. Excellent ribs if they are open.

We just had dinner, for the second time within 3 days, at Cabernet Bar and Grill. We don't eat in Road Town much just because we are normally on our boat and don't get here much. I have to say we were extremely surprised and would suggest this place to anyone looking for a laid back atmosphere and superb food. Owners, Paul and Paul (2) are great hosts and their staff was attentive and friendly. They do all their own smoking onsite and the brisket and pig were out of this world. My wife had their home made pot pie and the fish tacos, which were also fantastic. A frequent stop for crewed boat crews out for the night along with many local followers. Paul also let me know they were starting to provision the crewed charter boats and they had just finished doing the crewed charter boat show at Nanny Cay.

Sounds like a place I would like!

Ditto on the Tortola Sports Club. We had dinner before the BVI 1/2 Marathon. Better than decent food IMHO. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

I would recommend Sharkeys as well. We ate there prior to and after our charter from TMM. The pizza was excellent. Met John the owner, very friendly and engaging. We were there the night of the Alabama/ Clemson game and he was very accomdating. He has a a large lounging area in front of a large tv that was perfect for our group of 13 father and sons. If you stop by mention the Boomerang group from Cincinnati.

Traveling west on waterfront drive it is on your right after the traffic light at Administation Dr., across the street from souvenir shack city, and just before you reach Pussers.

We've eaten at Sharkey's twice - John is a great guy. Sold us a bottle of Tito's when Caribbean Cellars let us down and offered to lend us fishing year for our trip. Super nice guy!

We ended up going to the Sports Club for our first night. Thanks, Torotolian, for this great suggestion. The food was really good and reasonably priced, and what a nice, laid back atmosphere. Just what we were looking for! It was a little difficult to find as there was no sign and it is not right on the road (Tortolian's directions were accurate-maybe I just had foggy brain from travelling), but well worth it. Thank you!
