anyone heard anymore about SW flying to SXM? Took flight in Dec and rep said they're working on SXM. Rep also said SW is getting new booking equipment and sees assigned seating the near future.

Both of those would be very good news to me! I loathe SW non-seating crap.

Agree 100%. And having a non-stop out of BWI would be a bonus!

Assigned seating would ruin them.....non-assigned seating, no change fees, no cancellation fees, no baggage fees makes them one of the best.

I don't know how non-assigned seating can in anyway be considered a plus for the traveller...it's simply a cost saving tool for the airline.
I like SWA because of the flight experience, no bag fees and the minimal issues with changing of booked flights.
Adding seat selection would be an added bonus but that would be a big procedural change for the airline
Still don't understand why they added flights to two Cuban cities before SXM....(became the 8th airline to do so)

Probably because eventually Cuba will be a bigger destination than SXM in the near future.

Carol, just pay the $15 upgrade, first on, great seats, no luggage charge and very friendly staff.

I love their planes, pilots and schedule reliability. Some of the crew are funny others are strange.
I hate the unassigned seats. Have only flown them rarely since 2005 when my 80 year old father and I had to sit dozen rows apart in center seats on 3 hour + flight from west coast.
No one would give up their fought for window/aisle. I did beg Counter,,gate and flight attendant didnt care. Computer glitch prevented 24 hour checkin.
I do check pricing and really haven't seen any SW cheapo's lately. If you want cheap, allegiant and frontier usually cheaper and other main liners DL and AA often cheaper.

That works if you buy your tix early enough. I have been in the late B boarding group when I book a flight closer to the departure date...and...if you are making a connection and people are already on the plane good luck with that number

No. Just give me a D*MN seat. You pay $15 and you still have to elbow people out of the way to get a seat. Stupid.

Absolutely. The ONLY one it benefits is the airline, period.

sail2wind said: Carol, just pay the $15 upgrade, first on, great seats, no luggage charge and very friendly staff. I DID pay that once and still ended up in B because everyone paid it so ended up in same que as if had not paid it. At gate rep said I could pay $25 more and go to A's as business class. It only matters to me because I am not a good flyer and want to have someone I know sitting next to me. Do love the no checked bag fee tho'

In this day and age, I just want a seat that I don't have to elbow someone for. The concept of standing in line just to get a seat, I hate. I have flown Allegiant a couple of times and Spirit a couple of times, and even if you don't pay for a seat, the computer assigns you a seat. To me, that's infinitely better than what SW does. That said, on those airlines, I generally just pay and get an assigned seat....

I always pay to get early boarding....and then it seems on every flight they come around at the end asking everyone to move so a family can sit together. Why did I pay to get on early? I hate it with a passion. If I pay that extra cash for my WHOLE family of four I don't even want to be ASKED to move to another seat so a different family can sit together. They make me or my wife look like the bad guy instead of themselves (Southwest). Thank goodness I only use Southwest for direct to Vegas out of Orlando. AA and Jet Blue for SXM.
