We have been to St. Martin a number of times but never from March through November. We stay in Orient Village and are looking at a trip some time during low season, maybe some time June through October, but don't want to be there when a number of businesses are shut done. We have been told that happens. Can anyone confirm when that time frame is so we can avoid it?

It is very rare that any businesses close down before September 1. And most reopen by October 15, latest... Not everyone closes down anyway, but if you avoid September 1 through October 15, you should avoid the very worst of hurricane season also.

I'm in St Maarten every other month and its always a good time to be there! Of course, the traffic in high season is ridiculous!! It is true that some restaurants are closed in September till mid October but thats mostly on the French side. You can still find plenty of places to eat and it is so much quieter....a good trade off.

We always go the 2nd week of October just because things are a little slower then. Less traffic, walk into any restaurant without a reservation, water is warmer. We find most places on the Dutch side are open.

We always go on our trips in Oct also because things are a little slower on any island. The last time we went to SXM I believe the only thing closed that affected us was the zip lines.

If you try the zip lines and their open, let me know smile We're heading back Oct. 7 2017.

I did the zip line.....so much fun BUT it's not just a zip line. You have to do physical things to get high up in the trees...you climb rope ladders, walk a tight rope, walk a moving suspension bridge...lots of fun things beside zip line. If you are physically able you should give it a try. Start with the regular one and work up to the extreme one! Enjoy!

Yes, someone posted a video here recently of the extreme zip line. Much more of an obstacle course than anything.
