does anyone have tips for a family vacay to Italy beginning of September 2017, our children are 20 and 21, thinking 10 days, flying into Milan and out of Rome - aside from the obvious sites, anything we need to see and do?

Couple questions
Rental Car or Trains will be primary mode of transportation?
Is this the first visit?
Are you interested in seeing as much as possible or just absorbing the lifestyle?

We did this backwards- Rome to Milan and 15 nights. Not sure what the obvious sites are for you.We were in Rome, Bevagna, Ravenna, and Bellagio. I had been to Florence on my very first European trip, which is probably number one obvious site. Loved every stop and would go back in a heart beat! We picked up a rental car on the outskirts (kind of) of Rome and returned the car at the Milan airport. My goal was history, food, art, history, wine, food, wine and history... and art. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" /> Hanging out at Lake Como was for relaxation.

Flying into Rome is easy... Flying out of Rome not so much.
I would recommend Nutmeg's entry/exit plan. We flew into Pisa and out of Milan on our first trip and that was very easy and surprisingly cheaper.

I am partial to the Liguria and Piedmonte regions. Small towns like Lerici and Alba are just so real and have very little tourist.

Of course Florence and Rome are number one on many peoples agenda, but for me walking the cliffs of the Cinque Terre or sipping an amazing Barbaresco in the village that bears its name brought Italy alive for us.

If you plan to hit the bigger spots make sure Sienna and Lucca make the list. Will be very curious what you final trip plans will be.

We just returned from 12 days in Italy and had a wonderful time! We flew out of IAD, changed planes in Amsterdam, and Landed in Florence. We toured the Tuscany region for eight days and then spent last two days/nights in Rome and our return flights were Rome to Amsterdam to Dulles.

We learned of this trip through our local Chamber of Commerce when I enrolled my LPFM radio station (WMJS-LP) in our local Chamber. The trip is offered by CI Destinations in Fresno CA which only books tours through local Chambers. You do not have to be a chamber member to book a trip through your local chamber.

Italy is a fantastic place to travel with a children. I go there last month with my friends. The weather is gorgeous and the trains in Italy are a fantastic way to get between the big cities.
