There is a post at the Bvi community Facebook page as follows: "I think someone needs to check the dinghy dock in Cane Garden Bay. Not sure who's responsibility it is. I.know swells always take a beating on it but this evening a woman getting off a dinghy completely fell through into the water. I hope she is ok but friends who saw it were pretty shocked. Others had to help her out."
Be careful.

the surges from Nicol are pounding the docks everywhere just now. Whistling Pines has lost quite a few boards from their dock, my dinghy dock was completely submerged today

Surfing and anchoring are mutually exclusive sports. We had a guest a few years back that came back with a badly damaged dinghy. When we asked them what happened to it they informed us that it went upside down on the beach in Cane Garden Bay. When we asked them how it got there they said that they left it attached to the dock and went to dinner. Knowing there had been a big north swell that week I asked about the see conditions when they tied it up. They went on to inform me that the waves where sort of breaking on the dinghy dock and they had to time their run up the dock. In case you are wondering this was a bad decision on their part.

The stupidity of some bareboaters never ceases to amaze me, just as the vetting process the charter companies don't use in the interest of more business.

The dinghy dock in CGB is maintained irregularly by the local businesses. We have skipped CGB on our last several charters because the dock is hazardous, especially at night. This is not the first story reported here of someone falling through missing boards and getting injured. I'm sure it happens frequently.

It's never a good idea for mooring in CGB when north swell is up. Yesterday i looked at the webcam and a lot of boats were moored. The maintaince of the dock isn't good, but under these konditions nobody should run up the dock. Lars

When we were in CGB in May the dock was all fixed up, lots of new boards and no missing boards. Sounds like it needs some attention again.

This was just posted on Facebook:
Thank you for the heads up An An Gelle. We are in the process of developing a comprehensive plan to renovating the dinghy Dick in CGB next to Quito's. In the sitting of the House of Assembly on September 23, I raised the issue publicly for our Premier and Min. Of Finance along the Jn. Min. For Tourism about the urgency to fixing the dock. In very short order the dock will be fully overhauled for the safety of boaters and residents alike.

For decades we landed on the beach I was very happy to see the dock put into place. I much prefer the safety of the dock both for the cruisers but especially for the swimmers. However when the dock is in such disrepair it is much safer to put the dinghy on the sand. Maybe we should start landing on the sand west of the swim markers. Maybe the locals that take care of the dock will actually do the work. I know. Stop laughing.
