Anyone stayed here recently with reviews/insights?

I've never heard of that place on Great Bay. Do you have more info? I believe there's a Royal Islander in Simpson Bay.

Toronto, an occasional poster here, and his wife Joanne, are outright owners at Royal Islander Great Bay and they seem very happy with it.
It's at the end of Front Street coming from the Maho area and before you get to the Villas on Great Bay and the main Pberg shopping district and has been redone and renamed many times over the years. I think, way back in the day, it was simply known as the Great Bay Beach Resort, but this would have been long before Sonesta came into play at either property.
Royal Islander LaPlage and LaTerrasse are actually in Maho and IMHO, RILP is about the nicest timeshare on the island, and no, we don't own there. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

It's the same physical place that most here would call the SONESTA Great Bay. I do not know whether there are different physical rooms for the Sonesta vs Royal Islander, but it's at the end of Great Bay Beach, as Pat said. Otherwise, don't know anything about it. The Sonesta is adults only and a/i. Don't know about the RI there.

Yes it shares the same property with the Sonesta but they are separate. The RI is a timeshare offered through RCI and we've only seen reviews there. We're just finishing having a home built in Mexico and had this week to burn and decided to visit SXM. We haven't been there since '05 and we stayed on the French side then. We decided not to stay in Maho and the RIGB was one of the few options leftso we're there. We'll be visiting many areas while there, thanks for the responses. Happy to see Carol and Eric back, missed no TTOL and BVI forum!
