How do I get to where the ferries to go to there? Also any idea what it would cost to rent a cab for a few hours?

The public ferry leaves out of Marigot. There are other/private ferries that leave out of Simpson Bay near the airport but are much more costly. Cab rates are set and will vary depending on where you want to go. Not expensive but not cheap either.

Ruralcarrier is right, the best and cheapest ferry is out of Marigot and leaves daily either on the half hour or hour. Be sure to take your passport since you're going to a different country. In my opinion, the prettiest place on Anguilla is Shoal Bay East and is probably about as far from the ferry terminal as you can get. Last December, cab fare from the ferry terminal to Shoal Bay East was $26 each way. You just tell the cab driver what time you want him or her to pick you up and take you back to the ferry. They are very reliable. It's definitely worth a day trip - not cheap, but a totally different feeling from SXM. I always feel like I'm on the edge of the planet when I'm sitting at Shoal Bay East. It's beautiful.

I agree absolutely with this poster. Shoal Bay East is like heaven on earth and time spent there is about the best of the best as long as you're prepared for a peaceful kind of beach location. Many go to AXA thinking it's like many of the SXM beach locations and to me, it's just not. But they sure are nice and to many, among the nicest the Caribbean has to offer. Trying to figure the cost of a day trip for an adult from St. Martin to Anguilla. Here is what I have:

US$20 pp to Anguilla from Marigot, St Martin
US$5 pp departure tax leaving St. Martin
US$20 pp from Anguilla to Marigot, St Martin
US$5 departure tax leaving Anguilla
US$3 security fee leaving Anguilla

Total US$53 pp. for boat transportation/taxes/security. Plus spending money for taxi, lunch, etc. Is that right or did I miss anything?

I really don't remember the amounts we paid but I think you're in the ballpark, more or less.

It may sound like a lot of money but it's worth spending it to have the experience and to be able to say you've beentheredonethat - and who knows, like so many of us, you may end up having found your heaven on earth, too.

To spend the complete day there, it will cost you $200-$300 depending on your choice for food and drinks and of course taxi fare and ferry. The day goes past very quickly and often it is better to stay overnight or perhaps a couple of days to get a full appreciation of the island. The last time we were there we stayed a week in a villa and had an amazing time and an SUV was included in the cost of the villa! We do love Shoal Bay East, but Anguilla does have many more interesting spots to discover and enjoy.

That is probably close but nothing is exact. It will be worth it but if one has to closely scrutinize the cost, they probably should not go. It is not an inexpensive day but it is a great day in most cases.

We have spent many weeks there over the past 15 years. Great island. Surely worth more than just a day visit. Too many beautiful beaches and great dining options to choose.

Oh, I have full intentions of going to Anguilla, the cost is not a problem, I was just trying to get a handle on the ferry costs so not surprised. Thanks for the information.

Just to chime in - ferry is cash, departure tax is cash, some beach bars are cash only. Take cash. If I were going, it would be Shoal Bay East, tell the driver to take you to Elodias, tell him what time to pick you up. You will not be disappointed.

Where in Marigot the ferry located? Also do I need to be on the west or east end of shoal bay?

There are two Shoal Bay's, Shoal Bay East, and Shoal Bay West, they are at opposite ends of the island, you want Shoal Bay East.

There is a public ferry terminal on the waterfront in Marigot near where all the vendors set up. Near the West Indies Mall.

We're going to take Capt. Ian's cruise to Bankie Banx's Dune Preserve Beach Bar. Gonna do some quality time with Bankie.

We spent a day at Shoal Bay East a few years ago, just to take a break from St Martin. It was a wonderful experience. Probably the widest, longest, and most beautiful white sand beach I have ever seen.
We did rent a jeep for the day. It was about the same cost as round trip cab fare. It was fun to drive around the island and check it out.
It seems like the ferry cost was about $100 round trip for both, the car was $50, and we probably spent another $150 for chairs, lunch and drinks, so no, it's not an inexpensive day but we still talk about the pleasant quiet day we had.
