Anyone flown on a carrier that you would RECOMMEND, from SJU to SXM? I can get a really cheap flight on Allegiant to SJU--which has a lot of possible issues there--but wondering how reliable any of the small carriers are, that fly from SJU to SXM.. Plus it seems that any nonstop flights are running over $300 round trip, so not worth it??

Carol,
I use Google/Flight to find connections. Air Antilles Express/Winair has a non-stop flight at 14:30 on some days that lists for $113 one-way. However, I have not flown this route myself.

Air Antilles Express is the same as Winair? I was looking on a Saturday in high season and r/t nonstop on Winair was way over $300 r/t. It doesn't seem like it's worth checking into more, having to deal with Allegiant, plus booking two separate tickets..

Google Flights says 'Operated by Air Antilles Express marketed by Winair' and the Feburary flights on Saturdays are $278 rt.

Avoid LIAT. Made the SJU to SXM trip with them 2 years ago. It took 36 hours to complete the trip and a level of organizational incompetence that I have rarely witnessed in all my travels. I don't flame vendors easily or write this lightly. They may have improved their issues in the meantime (many articles written about their problems), but I doubt I'd roll those dice again

Yes, I pretty much knew that. We have had decent luck with Winair. Kind of wondered about Seabourne, but it is even more expensive than Winair...

I got over $300 r/t, but not sure it's worth doing, even for $278.. Too many variables.

It seems as though the major carriers have abandoned SXM, leaving only Seaborne and Liat, as far as Travelocity knows.

There is 1 daily Seaborne flight from SJU -> SXM and 3 Liat flights (no thanks!) All the airlines funnel into those flights no matter where you originate, unless I want to pay a premium to fly 1000 miles to JFK only to turn around and fly back non-stop to SXM (no thanks!)

I could swear I flew Jet Blue to SXM a couple years ago. Did they jack up the cost of slots for airlines at SXM or is there some crisis that scared away the major carriers?

Both being located now in FL I'd worry more about Allegiant than trying to get a better price on a flight.

I've flown Seaborne a few times, and found them mostly positive. However, trying to coordinate flight times into and out of SJU and then on to your next flight is a problem. We mostly fly out of BWI, and SW can get us to SJU easily, but then timing is a hassle. Looking for a BWI-SXM SW connection eventually. Allegiant has had many safety issues.

I've kind of decided it's not worth trying, as I (stupidly) thought that I could get flights from SJU and SXM a lot cheaper than you can. We've flown Allegiant a couple of times. We got there safely, eventually...
