Suggest you avoid it ... ghost town. Lots of reasons. Search "Caravanserai" for history...

The answer is 'not many'.. If you don't know the history of it, kind of a nutshell is that a developer bought a timeshare resort and cancelled all the t/s contracts. Since then the developer has been in court with someone constantly, either the former t/s owners, or businesses in the complex, the casino there, etc. He has lost fairly well across the board. Meantime, at various times they didn't keep the pool clean, there were constant problems with the elevators, etc. The maintenance issues MAY well be settled now, but because of all the bad blood about the developer, anyone with any long term connection to SXM wants nothing to do with the hotel..

Planefreak, lots of people/timeshare owners uses to stay at their resort when it was called the Caravanserai. But the current owner/developer who tried to convert it into a hotel was sued and now must legally honor those timeshare units back to the timeshare owners. Better to stay away.

When we were on the island in mid April, the Alegria appeared to be a ghost town each evening we were there. We were at the Dunes a couple of evenings and I spoke to one person staying there who said it was actually a little spooky because there were so few guests and they were NOT pleased with the property over all. But that was just one guests opinion. I know I wouldn't stay there when I book my extra island days days but I also won't frequent the Westin for reasons that don't need to be gone back into here.

Basicly the place (Alegria) is a ghost town right now. Charging for parking in the lot now but you may have already heard that. The NEW Sunset is very commercial now built for the daily cruise ship day trippers.
