Drop a note to John or Cyndi at Tijon. They went on that cruise.

I think the Pullmantur Horizon used to embark from SXM but could not find any info they plan on doing so again. The only ship, other than clipper ships, I could find with upcoming embarkation from SXM is the Seabourn Odyssey.

The pullmantur Zenith has 7 day sailings from sxm this winter as do the windstorm and seaborne. All according to vtg website.

I think the ship is now the Zenith. Last couple of years, it was only high season, maybe December through March.

It is the Zenith. It departs from St. Maartin Christmas through the end of March.

I was hoping Moxie would reply. I know she and her husband took the cruise one year.

We were on it a couple of times way back when it was new. No desire for the mega-ships or cruises for me any longer.

Having been on many cruises, when I read Moxie's report, I decided this cruise would not be for me regardless of the inexpensive price. It is unfortunate that another cruise line would not begin cruising from St. Maarten.

For the main line cruise companies, I think it is more about logistics as much as anything. Air transport, moving several thousand people from the airport to the ship, luggage, re-provisioning, etc. But I imagine air alone make it difficult at best and then the other items just do not make it work well to port a big ship out of SXM.

When you think about the logistics just for the cruise ships in MIA and FLL, it is an extremely complicatetd operation. Not that it could not be done, just that why would they want to do it and what is the benefit to them, remember their idea is to make money! <img src="http://65.246.19.145/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

I think that SXM is only suitable for a smaller ship to home port there, which is what the Horizon and now Zenith, are. A small ship, compared to the behemoths that sail today for most companies. I would love to do the Wind Star cruise out of SXM some day. The Pullmanteur is a cheap cruise, and I was originally interested in it. Not sure whether I would be interested now or not..

Some of the other cruise lines do have smaller ships available to make this possible. In fact there was some talk about one of them thinking about making this possible in the future, but nothing concrete yet.It is being done in other small ports so if money is to be made,St. Maarten might be considered.

The zenith actually advertises/books 7 day cruises at all/nearly all stops on the itinerary incl: sxm, barbados, Santo domingo. Must be fund to handle all that logistics.
