Just curious if anyone has taken a freighter/cargo ship cruise? My wife and I are considering it. Seems like it would an interesting and different way to travel.

Just last week was an article in the Wall Street Journal about some artist stuck on an Hainan container vessel while the company was in bankruptcy. Certainly not a normal occurrence, but interesting.

Yeah. I bet the midnite buffet is whatever you can catch down in the hold. Think I will stick with NCL or Royal Caribbean.

So it would seem that the short answer to my question is, no. Too bad. If we decide to do this I will provide a write-up.

Definitely interested in a report. We have looked into insofar as knowing some companies that do it, their standard routes and basic cost.

It really llok to us as world cruise or world cruise segment like. I think pricing was about same for a cruise line inside discounted.

Seemed like they had some interesting/different ports, longer in port times.

I think we've put it in the retirement timeframe, extreme relaxation, getaway from it all, bucket list category.

I suspect it might be pretty interesting knowing the officers, learning what they do and I bet they don't eat too bad.

Some have pools onboard, that might be nice.

I'd be prepared to have to figure your port arrangements and hiccups in getting through the port and on the boat. On the other hand, maybe the captain will make it easy/peasy.

Part of the appeal to us is that you aren't stopping in all of the usual, crowded, tourist ports.


In fact, from what I've read, the food is usually quite outstandingly good. Of course, no "midnight buffet," but you do have access to the kitchen, so you can get something anytime, if you really want it.

Although they don't take passengers now, at one time the Geest Line would take paying guests from UK/Europe to the Caribbean. In it's day it was very popular and had rave reviews from passengers I had met over the years in Antigua and the surrounding islands.
