My wife and I were regulars on the island for years staying at Orient Beach. We haven't been back since 2010.
We are considering bringing our 17 yr old daughter + friend and staying at GCBC. What is the security situation like in GC these days? Okay for the girls to walk down the street in the day by themselves? Can you walk down the beach from GCBC down to the lolos?
Thanks in advance. Hope to get back to the island soon.

Sorry, are you talking during the day or at night? During the day, absolutely no problem. At night, there is the golf cart, which is some kind of really small charge--$10 for 2 people, something like that. Personally I would do that after dark..

You can't walk all the way into town on the beach from GCBC because the beach is under water in places, but you can certainly walk down the street. We (adults) walk down at night. Haven't had a problem. We only take the car if there's chance of rain. Like any place in SXM, be aware of your surroundings. Security is very good at GCBC.

There are so many people that do the walk.....as long as you don't stay out late you will always have a safety in numbers by tagging along near others. When in doubt, the golf cart system is always an option.

Especially if he is talking about two teenage girls, by themselves, after dark... Definitely the golf cart is safer..

Oh those girls are not going out after dark without me. 2 17 year olds that look 21 is just asking for trouble on too many levels. I had enough problems with guys in the bvis when they were 15.

Good advice, all of it.
We stayed there a trip or so back and loved the property. It's a great place for the girls and a daytime walk into town is no big deal - they will be safe. The property is all the best parts of an AI resort without being AI. We parked our car upon arrival and didn't touch it again until we were ready to head out to the airport. My caveat, however, is this stay was after being on island for two weeks at our timeshare so we were very content to enjoy their beaches, pool, activities and restaurant.
As stated, if at night walk into town as a group or not at all and for sure not the teen girls alone.
When we stayed at GCBC we used the golf cart - the front desk people will make the arrangements for you. I think it was $12.00 a couple r/t and it was kind of fun. They gave us their card and the restaurant staff summoned them to take us home when we were through with dinner. It was kind of fun and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
