After 5 weeks serving as the sunrise and sunset meal for the noseeums I have arrived at a winner for keeping the little [email]b@$#@rds[/email] away. DEET works great for mosquitoes but noseeums could care less. Tried vodka and gin but these little buggers are alcoholics. Actually the regular orange Off works better than the green Deep Woods. But the undisputed winner of my tests was Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus pump with 10% Picaritin. Runner up was Off Family Care pump with 5% Picaritin. After spraying be sure to rub it in to insure every inch is covered. These persistant little monsters will search until they find a chink in your armor like your heel or the arch of your foot.
Once my supply of Skin-So-Soft ran out I could not find any more on Tortola so bring plenty of your own.
Here is what Consumer Reports reports has to say on repellents. In this case just as Glenn found more is better. This may be disconcerting for those with a phobia or other fear of chemicals.
The 20% picaridin non-aerosol sprays work great for us - Sawyer and Natrapel. We can't get the Repel 15% picaridin any longer that was my favorite for a couple of years.
Looks like Natrapel®12-hour 6oz Continuous Spray which is 20% picardin is a winner. Available on Ebay for about $9 including shipping. There are also many smaller containers for less money all the way down to 1 oz.
Highly rated for control of Zika carrying mosquitoes.
