I buy travel insurance only sporadically. Since my mother is now quite elderly, and my daughter and her husband are traveling with me to St. M this year (w/o my grandkids) I know that unforeseen situations may arise. My question is: since I paid for all of us, will travel insurance cover if my daughter or her husband has to cancel? I can't seem to find this in any of the literature. Thanks for any info you can provide.

What I would suggest is that you CALL Insure my Trip, which is a TTOL sponsor. They will explain it to you. ...and then make sure you tell them that you booked them because of TTOL, so we get the (small) commission.. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />

I believe that it covers everyone in your party. There are so many different options and REASONS for cancelling. As Carol said, call and check. We use Travelguard and they are good at answering questions, on the phone, rather than having to read the small print.

Correct....this is from the "Insure my Trip" site: The providers will use a few pieces of personal information, other than the cost of your trip, to calculate the cost of a plan:
Age of the travelers Number of travelers Length of travel Type of coverage
The age of the travelers is considered one of the most important of the four factors. Typically, a traveler that is over the age of 65 can expected increased rates. If you are traveling with minors, you may be able to add them to the plan at no additional cost, or at a lower rate – depending on the travel insurance company.
The number of travelers and length of travel can often increase the rates on the plans. This is because with more variables, there is more risk attached to the plan. ...and most policies need to be purchased within 2-4 weeks after the trip is purchased (info from the same very informative website)

Coverage will be there if OP purchases a policy that includes all travelers and OP paid the premium based on "all travelers". If, however, OP only purchased a policy that covered him/her and spouse (if any) then if the daughter and her husband failed to travel OP wouldn't be able to recover any of the expenses related to the daughter & her husband's travel.

Makes sense that the coverage would only cover those it was purchased for....

Well, it appears that I'm out of luck, then. I just checked: I purchased for all of us in November ... so, I evidently have missed the time frame!

I just discovered that, because I purchased it with my AA card, that's one of their travel protection benefits. This, combined with no foreign transaction fees, may stop me from complaining about them.
