We recently stayed in the Orient beach area and rented through Homeaway,(tied to VBRO). I did see places that offered monthly rentals. The places I came across that offered monthly rates were less than the weekly rate times 4 weeks. If they don't show a monthly rate, ask what the rate would be. We rented a place elsewhere for 3 months and they gave us a nice discount over their monthly rate. Ask for a discount especially if you are renting for a few months. A bird in the hand...
