I would not spend that. You did not include dates but a random April search shows 178 to 435 roundtrip from SJU to EIS. I would ferry over from there.
One thing I would consider is spending the night in SJU and leave for the BVI early the next day. The early flights are often much cheaper since the depart before connecting flights can arrive from the US. The savings will often cover the hotel and breaking up the trip will leave you much more rested on arrival in Virgin Gorda.
