Recently the number of reported cases has continued to increase. In 2013, 2.35 million cases of dengue were reported in the Americas alone, of which 37 687 cases were severe dengue.
That's just the Americas...
Worldwide:
An estimated 500 000 people with severe dengue require hospitalization each year, a large proportion of whom are children. About 2.5% of those affected die.
That's over 12,000 deaths from the disease that has been around for a long time vs. near zero deaths from the one that is most mentioned to be worried about. Hardly anyone worried about dengue years ago but it existed then and is a more serious disease. (neither is a minor affliction)
Don't worry about the name...worry about mosquitoes which are the disease transmitters...As was mentioned just be smart and proactive by using the repellant you should have been using for many years.
