We also have been flying American for many , many years .......have not had any major delays . That includes several years of LIH ( lihue , kauai ) to LAX, to Mia ( or DFW) to SJU, We are now back on the Mainland in Socal, and just booked AA: LAX, MIA, STT. Then Ferry to Road Harbor, Tortola. Much easier.
American performed well for us, but we do not fly during the winter bad weather months, and thus be at the mercy of area wide cancellations or delays.
I also like that with american , we get our seat assignments when we book and pay for the flight .
Good for the OP, you all have a much shorter flight to the caribbean out of N.C.
Less time traveling, and more time enjoying the islands.
CestLavie , We really enjoyed lay - overs at DFW, Easy train ride to our new departure area, well marked as to where to go, good restaurants, friendly people, Made the lay overs pleasant and easy.
