Well in a nutshell our first trip to SXM was definitely more than I could have ever expected!! We left Toronto at 6am (-15 C) and arrived in SXM at 11:40 (29c). What a shock. We went directly to Unity Car REntal and got our car and then to our resort which was Caravansarai Beach Resort. Well, as you all know, the SSBB is right there. That was our first stop even before our condo was ready!! Needless to say, it was quite an experience. Seeing those planes land right there was absolutely awesome. Words cannot describe it.

Our one bedroom condo was very very nice. I had heard some negative things about the "C", but we found none of that. It was very clean, really spacious, we had a balcony that over looked the ocean and were able to watch the ships going by. Staff were very friendly. One pool was under renovation , as apparently they are doing major expansion in the next two years to be completed in Jan 2007.

We spent very little time sitting still. As you all had told me, this island is one to explore. We made it to several beautiful beaches. Dawn beach was our favourite, and we had the ribs at Ms.B's. (excellent) Other good eating experiences were Peg Leg Pub and Uncle Harry's. The filet mignon was absolutely perfect.

Managed to get through Front street a few times. Made a mistake and went on the Sunday, but didn't get there till 2pm and there were no boats in that day, so some stores were closed. Well we found "Winston" a friendly bartender on the beach that made some very very good cocktails for us. Needless to say, no shopping got done. But I do have to mention one thing.....I went to use the washroom at the bar, and somehow managed to leave my purse in the washroom. Of course I had all my money except for a small amount in room as we were going shopping for jewellery. When I realized I had forgotten it, probably 15 minutes had passed. I was frantic. As I ran through the bar on way to washroom, the lady behind the bar came running over with my purse, everything in tact. She said a lady had handed it in!!!!!!! I have heard many stories about having stuff stolen, etc. when travelling. I was so surprised that there are still honest people out there. I looked around to find the person to personally thank her, but to no avail.
When I read about the crime at Oyster Pond it saddened me. ONe thing I found about SXM was that I always felt safe???? Hopefully this was an isolated incident.

We took the Sunset Boat trip on the Tango. It was a lot of fun and the food they served was really good. The boat crew were hilarious and lots of fun. Met a lot of nice people. Would recommend it. Nice way to spend our last evening. After the boat ride we went over to Lady C's. That was fun too!!!

Found the most amazing jewellery store ( I know there are lots of them). J's Best Jewellery . He was such a nice man, that if I was rich, I could have stayed there all day and visited and spent , spent, spent.

In closing, I just want to thank all of you that answered my questions prior to the trip and for all that provide info on this forum. I am glad I found TTOL. It sure helped.

Sorry Neil, never made it to the TTOL party at Yacht Club. We had been at beach all day and once again too m any of those darn rum punches. When we were able to get there, the party was over.
Oh welll, there is always a next time.

All I can think about is SXM......tell me....how long does this last???? Someone said it was Paradise,,,,I think they hit right on!!!

Till the next time.....
