That's a tad high, we usually pay around $25/day for up to ten devices…very convenient…..

get an inexpensive mifi device and buy some data from Lime or digicel. This would cost about $80 total and you own the mifi for other trips and the data is good for a month. We have used ours all over the world.

Don't mean to derail the thread, but where can I get more info about mifi devices? We are going to be sailing the Leewards and going between several islands and I am hoping to find a solution for that trip, as well as future trips. I know nothing about mifi, but it sounds like I should be able to find a mifi device that I can just switch sim cards depending on where we are. Is that correct? Any advice on which device to look at?
Thanks for any help.
Matt

I just got a unlocked at&t mifi and plan to get a digicell or lime card once I get to roadtown. I got a unlocked Liberate 5792 4g device on ebay lightly used for $45. I'll get a 3gb card for about $45 and have internet when I need it. Mainly for pandora and keeping in touch with the kids.

Who is your stateside carrier. ATT Passport works well. Verizon has a deal for $10 a day that lets you have your same rate plan as stateside. And I know that Sprint has a deal as well. At $35 a day your own device or smart phone will be cheaper.

Matt Yes, you can, we have used it in the Caribbean and Europe. In the French islands , I think the service was Orange. We set the wifi, or mifi to the name of the boat. Click on Long Overdue and everyone on board can use the signal.

Now I am curious. Who do I call to get my cellphone to work in the BVI for calls to and from the US?

your home phone will work, so call your carrier. If you have an unlocked phone, get a sim from Digicel or Lime

I asked the mifi question a few posts up. Just to clarify: I have AT&T as my stateside carrier but don't want AT&T to have anything to do with when I am using the mifi device outside of the country. If I buy a mifi device from AT&T will it be locked and only work on the AT&T network (or roam on a foreign network but still be billed through my AT&T account)? Or is it as simple as just switching out sim cards to lime when in the BVIs, orange when in the French islands, etc... and I will be entirely disconnected from AT&T? Do I need to look for an unlocked device to be able to switch to different providers depending on where I am located?
Also, are all sim cards universal in terms of shape and functionality? Or is that something to consider as well?
Just want to make sure I end up with the right device that will give me the most flexibility.
Thanks,
Matt

Thanks,
Matt There are 2 sizes of sim card, they can be cut to fit. Once you take out your AT&T sim, your phone is useless. Yes, it's just like plug and play, put in the Lime sim and call away.
