Is there a link I can use to catch up with all this news? I haven't been on the forum in a while. We have been to SXM 6 times and Andy & Cheryls, and Orange Fever were a big reason we keep returning. I don't think there is another substitute for Cheryl (and Andy's (RIP) mussels.)

I would just scroll back through the pages here as this issue with Orient Beach has been discussed multiple times.
Personally, never a fan of Baywatch but I did enjoy Orange Fever and both appear to be gone.

We ran into Cheryl on our visit last month, was great to see her!! She looked wonderful, seems to be quite happy and head over heels in love with her new (and might I add quite lovely, handsome and sophisticated) hubby and no obvious regrets about not reopening the restaurant. God bless her in her new life!!

Yes, Cheryl and Roger are very happy and she doesn't need the frustrations involved with that restaurant. That chapter of her life is closed and we all need to respect that and move on as she has done. It is so nice to see her happy again!

I just want to throw in a few of my own pennies...all good things must come to an end. the establishments enjoyed decades of lucrative income..spent nothing to upgrade their spots..no heating bills or air conditioning expense but charged the same price of a higher end restaurant now they are crying because they can go to st. tropez for 3 months..just sayin

Just got back and in my opinion the new set up is not impressive at all I don't care for the rock wall at all and the true Carribean flavour has been lost

we stopped by orient. . .also loyalist of orange fever. found that the wind made the visit unpleasant and the seaweed made swimming unfavorable. just lost the love for orient in general--so sad.

What do you consider lucrative? We patronize Leandra's, and she seems to live a modest lifestyle. The food is always good, never left hungry, and definitely not overpriced. She always appreciates the business. People should have something for their labor.

I thought the "new" orient beach buildings were generic. I understand the reasoning behind the new construction. It is cleaner and neater...it is safer in that the buildings are further back from the eroding beach.
Orient has continually changed since we started going in 1999. Some changes are better...some not so much....
Orient is so much more crowded now....so much more to do...yet the charm of the old Orient beach seems to have disappeared with the "progress".
Even the new Club Orient sign has changed...gone are the backsides of the nude couple....the sign has doubled in size....and while there is a tiny little hint of nudity in the woman...now alone....her lovely backside is now hidden by a flowing pareao.
Yep....lots of changes....but there is still something about orient beach that speaks to me like no other place in the world.

Leandra has become a good friend over the years, and I can't think of anyone who works harder to keep things going. When she's not at Orient, she's running "Mom's", her restaurant in the French Quarter. Not only did we miss our yearly trip this year (today would have been 'hump day' for our 2 weeks), but we also missed seeing Leandra! Maybe by next Spring, Orient will have some of it's character back!

Is Chez Leandre's open again. It is our favorite place on the beach; the owners were always so friendly, the was always good, portions just right, and the price was perfect!
