We used Delta last year and the bags going to SXM and coming home were NOT for free no matter what! Check with them carefully. It's the only place they charge for bags.

I do think if you have a certain Delta credit card you do get ONE checked bag at n/c. We've actually paid less than that for high season AA r/t in Business for Saturday n/s flights, and they allow you three bags each with the weight limit of 70# each.......

I definitely prefer having the tax included with the airfare. I was just stating the reason for the increase in the return fare because of it as JD mentioned. We always had to pay it before and standing in line was a real pain for sure.

That is correct. J.D. At this time we are booked on AA for our April trip. The flight number has changed a few times but it's still Business Class and it does still exist as a nonstop flight. The AA baggage allowance guides say three free checked bags pp and I'm almost certain the weight allowance is 70 pounds each though that could be old history. That last is really a nonissue though, since I know for a fact there's NO WAY I would ever bring that amount of luggage to SXM for our typical two week plus trip - it's St. Maarten and a medium sized bag each leaves us lots of room for extras and there have been a few trips we've done legal sized carry-on only and that's worked, too, though I do have to think a little more about packing to do that. The two med. bags usually allow us half a bag full of clothes that never get worn and room for some extras too.
Respectfully,

Using a different browser is also a good suggestion and I think Google Chrome allows private browsing. Did my mother really say all that????

ruralcarrier said:I just checked Delta for November and found that they only fly JFK to SXM, non-stop, on Mondays and Wednesdays. According to the Delta site, a non-stop is offered every day but Tuesday in November from JFK. I plugged in random dates for Nov. 2016 and saw fares starting in the mid-$400 range and up to $900 for non-stops from JFK. Fares changed drastically depending on the day of the week with Saturday being the highest. I called and was told only Monday and Wednesday had non-stop. (I couldn't find it on the computer) Of course we are booked Tuesday to Tuesday for 2 weeks. PS I just checked their website and there are non-stop everyday but Tuesday (of course lol) Who was I talking to at Delta??

Very odd as they should see at least the same screen we see and probably a more detailed one at that. When I get an answer over the phone that I question, I always call back and work my way up the ladder if needed.

We booked two weeks for Sat/Sat (two weeks) in July and the flight's gone up over $200 since then. Non stop on JB was slightly over $1,000 today. The airlines will continue to push timeshare travelers to other destinations given the Sat/Sat or Sun/Sun restrictions placed on TS owners--certainly won't help the economy on the Island.

Some timeshares run Fri./Fri. so it is not restricted to just weekends. Regardless of the destination, if most are Sat. & Sun. you would have the same problem traveling elsewhere.
Perhaps I am mistaken but don't timeshares with "points" allow the owner to choose arrival days?

if most are Sat. & Sun. you would have the same problem traveling elsewhere. You beat me to that thought. I do think most everywhere are Fri/Sat/Sun arrivals. Of course our last exchange was Thurs/Thurs (Las Vegas) This will be an issue with all destinations that rely on a high percentage of timeshare users. I checked BOS-Aruba and the same date fares are also over four figures Sat-Sat...BUT...Wed fares are over $900 also Just high prices because they can....

And the majority of cruises are weekend departure/return so that factors into the weekend air demand also to various places.

Funny...I check out Farecompare.com for interesting articles on travel and just saw this... The cheapest days to fly are unpopular travel days; Tuesdays, Wednesday and Saturdays. Expensive days: The most expensive days to fly are the most popular days; Fridays and Sundays. Guess it depends on where you are going...

You would not have the business travel on Saturday's as most of that would be non-weekend days. Vacation travel would likely be most heavy on the weekend as we well know.

Yes, JD you are correct. Points timeshares do not have specific arrival or departure dates. That is a big plus if using points...no restrictions.

Airfare for 7/30-8/13 JFK-SXM n/s, $1,276 ea. for 3 passengers Thur. 7/28-Sat.8/13 $940 ea. I will rent for 2 nites at Simpson Bay & Marina a 2BR. in the Marina Bldg. for $130 per nite. It's a no-brainer. Price is for 1st class 3 passengers.
