I talked by email with someone who lives on Tortola and they really don't think this is the same person at all. As I said, Rymer is a very common name on Tortola. Not sure why whoever sent you that link thought they were connected to begin with???

According to Facebook post and the Today website, Bryan Rymer was sentenced to 12 months in prison. They are also filing an appeal.

"The court rejected claims for damages from the police and the fire department because they are not legal entities"?? Huh?? Not sure what that means. The police and fire department on SXM consists of people who just show up from time to time?? Obviously, that can't be what the ruling actually was..

I thought that was odd too, Carol. Maybe it's because they're government entities and not private businesses.

Government entities get reimbursement from convicted criminal defendants all the time in the US. Not sure about SXM though.

Twelve months is certainly not long enough for committing this crime since he has also committed crimes in the past. It appears he is a very dangerous individual and doesn't learn from his mistakes.

The wife is saying on facebook that he has no prior criminal history and that someone was feeding some bad info to the press.

wilsonck said: Rumor has it he has no prior criminal history. Someone was feeding some bad info to the press. I saw that as well - from someone saying she was his wife I think. All very very bizarre. Also saw on appeal they already have the proof that he didn't have the phone in question on him at the time of the call Hmmm

Yes, rumors, many of them. None of which make any sense. If you can have proof of your innocence within a couple of months, why would you allow the case to go to trial and not get a continuance?? And as far as his supposed criminal record, I had thought there was a public pronouncement of that by the prosecutor?? Not sure.

Yes, that was from his wife, but I don't really believe it now. There is a post in another facebook group, that this was his elebrate plan to setup some up for revenge and try to ruin their life. I think they got the right guy in the end. Just surprised he did not get any fines levied.

Right, bizarre indeed. I have friends who were involved in testifying. There is more to this guy than is being released but he still has people who believe he must be innocent, in spite of the proof and conviction. He claimed that my friend had his phone but evidence showed this was a lie. Most people really don't believe that his wife posted on his behalf as supposedly she has changed her name and not with him. The poster used the same grammatical errors that he usually makes. The guy had months to come up with a defense but now that he has been convicted and sentenced says he has proof he isn't guilty? In all honesty this guy has been giving a lot of people problems for several months. He isn't who his "friends" think he is.

So then if the prosecutor stated this in court you're saying she fed bad information?

No, I am not saying that. I have amended my post to state the source of that info. I think they have got the right guy and he is just grasping at anything he can to say he is innocent.

I wonder if any of these "friends" might be implicated before this is all said and done?? After all, if it is on facebook, it MUST be true??
I really don't have a clue what happened but just because you read something on a facebook group page (private at that so not all can read) does not make it the gospel.
He may be innocent and he may be guilty but this "hearsay" is over the top.

Not legal entities? Clearly I do not understand Dutch law. He sounds like a very mentally unstable individual. I feel for his wife and kids, he certainly ruined their Christmas holiday.
