Talking to the owner tonite at DD in Oyster Pond. New DD is expected to be open by Dec 1. Located behind Gourmet Marche close to the end of the runway. Right ahead of the dock the Celine II is tiered.
Same type of operation, pub bar/restaurant with "low friends in low places" atmosphere. Large selection of bottled craft beer.
First time tonite I saw the new menu of the bottled craft beer selection available to order at OP DD. Did a Rouge hazelnut brew
Opportunity to enjoy the Dinghy Dock without the long drive if staying in Maho/Simpson Bay.

Sorry, the Gourmet Marche in Simpson Bay??? I read here that location is being turned into a casino? And isn't that where Lal's Curry in a Hurry is/was??

I would guess where Shrimpy's and Barnacles were located?

Lal's still "is".

Cheers,
T

Yes, that is the spot Todd. Looking forward to trying it soon. Hopefully it will be a good new addition to that area.

The old Barnacles spot. When we parked in the lot for our Celine II cruise on Nov 4 it looked as Gourmet Marche was still in business. Have no idea about a casino, other than my wallet is typically liter when I leave one.

OK, thanks. Weird, on the grocery still being there. Anyone on island who can confirm whether it is still there, as of today?

Carol -- it was boarded up the entire 11 days we were on the island.

OK, sounds like Chunky Dunkin was mistaken.

He says "at the end of the runway". I think perhaps he means the grocery store in Maho? That's also closer to where Celine Too is, I think.

OK, I'm really confused now, as he did say the Gourmet Marche. I have no idea where Barnacles used to be.

Barnacles is where the old Shrimpys was. Neil has his boat at the dock there. They are behind the Gourmet Marche.

He doesn't mean Maho. The OTHER end of the runway is close to the area by Le Grand Marche Gourmet. Remember when you turn up the road to Mary's Boon. The runway has two ends.

Celine is at the other end of the runway right where Todd noted.

OK. For some reason I was thinking it was down towards to other end. I don't remember either Shrimpy's or Barnacles, so those didn't help me as landmarks.

There were lots of good TTOL parties at Shrimpy's in the past. That must have been before you started visiting the island. Shrimpys was there for a long time, but Barnacles was a more recent addition.

I was a French side snob for my first few years; only started frequenting Dutch side restaurants in the last few years. I was thinking that Celine was near Boca Marina, which is further down airport road, if I recall correctly. Maybe that was the older boat that was destroyed in the hurricane.

Celine was at Boca Marina in 2014, did not survive the hurricane, Celine 2 is behind Barnacles [since Jan 2015?]

We on the other hand have been gravitating from the Dutch side to the French side, I don't know if that makes us French side snobs, but it probably proves Newtons 3rd law of motion. Come to think of it SXM sand gravity is probably a modern day extension of Newton's 1st law of motion

Yes, Shrimpy's was terrific. Much like DD.....and Shrimpy/Mike was a character, as well. We had much fun there ' back in the day '.

My first TTOL party was at Shrimpy's 2007! Got there late but made a few friends that night!

We were definitely coming to the island then; I guess we hadn't discovered parties yet! We did stay to ourselves for the first couple of years, and we also were coming in late February/early March then. With the Regatta being during our stay, we generally just stayed on the French side.
