My brother is in the process of buying a new Leopard 444 and needs ideas for boat names. He is a big Jimmy Buffet fan and a Cubs fan. Me being a deadhead have come up with Ripple. Any ideas? Names he has thought of already... Fins Up, Come Monday, Let's Play Two...

I love the song "Manana" by JB. And the song is all about the BVI's. Or Gypsy's Palace would be fun.

BuffetT ( two TT's not warmed up food!)My next boat will be "Calypso DeSoto" just 'cos I love the way it sounds.Jimmy himself likes " Hemisphere Dancer" for one of his ( plane or boat..not sure),"Groovy" for his racing boat in St Barth's..I like " Weather is here.."but you could name it after his daughter " Savannah Jane"..Jimmy would like that."Continental Drifter 3" is the name of his current cruising motor yacht we see down here every now and then..and out at Anegada when Jimmy is bone fishing..

"Manana" is a great name since that song references the BVI in several places.
"Parrot Head" is also good, albeit overused.
"Field of Dreams" as a baseball reference (with a Cubs logo).
"Let's Play Two!" is an old Ernie Banks quote.

Hemisphere Dancer is Buffett's plane. I would be careful using his copyrighted stuff. He's been known to sue pretty freely. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />
Kidding .... but only slightly.

Jimmy has registered " Margaritaville" and " Cheeseburger in Paradise" but boat and plane names are free game, I believe. Without $$$ the only places allowed to use " Cheeseburger in Paradise" are " Le Select "in St Barth's and "Stanley's" now " Tony's" in CGB where he wrote the song ( This is not Google this is from JB himself)...

Jimmy's proclivity for legal action has always made me a little uncomfortable ... and tarnished his image and music in my eyes. The 'locals' in Key West have VERY few kind things to say about him.
I always enjoy his music (the more obscure stuff is preferred). His music represents freedom and paradise for lots of people. I just can't help believing much of it is contrived at this point. Manufactured corporate music.

Our paths have crossed a few times..he is a very smart businessman who also realises how lucky he is and really seems to appreciate his fans and his success. He also seems to really enjoy the lifestyle he sings about..accomplished sailor, decent surfer..loves the beach life. Having covered Hollywood for more than three decades he is far from being an arrogant celeb like many, many others..just my two cents..

Following up on the DeadHead theme, The front of the Merry Prankster/ Ken Kessy bus was labeled "Further" Always thought that would be a good name for a boat
Mike Namaste
I suppose "Namaste" could work, too, but I would definitely check the spelling

We REALLY came close to two names for our boat. Further and BOB (yes my name is robert) and what do you do in a boat.... but settled on Hallucinations.
It is a really hard decision process.
To add: I get quite a few people taking pictures of my car at stop lights as well. EFF OIL on Chesapeake bay plates

Whatever you name the boat please try to come up with a name that means something to more than 3 people, as well as a name that can be understood on the vhf!!!!! Nothing worse than you telling someone your clever boat name and they give you that blank stare.....

We came up with the name Island Fun for our Leopard 42 as an extension of our jeep with tags Mud Fun. As a family, we spent years off roading. We continued this family bond by naming our boat Island Fun, a name that fits in well for the BVI.

You do have a personal relationship with him. My connection is through personal stories from locals at places I've visited (and a few media articles through the years). From 10,000 ft, he seems to go to great lengths to protect his brands from some very very small people. The price of maintaining an empire, I suppose.

We bought a new Chaparral bow rider (for our little lake up north) this summer and named it Latitude Adjustment. It could work for a play on "changes in attitude, changes in latitude"

Margaritaville brands are owned by Buffett's holding companies. He's still there, but there are a few layers of corporations in between. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Tonguea.gif" alt="" />

I do like China Cat, if I were a cat guy.
When we started to name boats, we tried to go to sites and google names. I really did not want to have a name others had.
there is always the bear references you could try. Thinking of naming my dingy "gummy bear"
When we had the relabeled Fruitcakes (minus the S) we named our dingy... Lemmiwinks
sorry folks <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

My wife and I took our high school senior son and six of his friends last May to BVI. She made everyone a shirt that said "senior trip". I wore my shirt , by myself, into the resort. Several people asked me: Where are the rest of the old guys?" I quickly changed shirts.

I like China Cat too but I'm the deadhead not him. He's more sold on Cubs or Jimmy Buffett. The top runners right now are... 1. Back in a Minute or Knee Deep (from a Zach Brown song featuring JB) 2. Let's Play Two 3. The Last Resort (the name of our family cottage in Wisconsin that was built by our grandparents)
Right when we think it is narrowed down someone comes up with a new one... Pier Pressure Bob (our dad is named Bob)

we both busted out laughing when I suggested "BOB", what do you do in a boat? just BOB around. when you make reservations for BOB, hailing coast guard. we were feeling pretty silly that night...
Hallucinations can be a challenge for the locals, we often shorten to "LUCI"

I like names that are pretty and hail well over the marine radio. A beautiful vessel deserves a cool name. I sometimes wonder if joke names are regretted at some point. Both of my yachts were named "Angelina." Also, I think that 3 or more syllables in many cases, often flows best. Just my preferences...

When we purchased our boat up North it was named Waterfront Property. While it has become our part time NYC apartment, the name didn't stick with us and was a challenge on the VHF. We even got hailed back one time as Real Estate.
When I resisted even getting a motor boat for NY Harbor, my wife persuaded me by telling me to think of it as a fast Kittytonic (tender for Catatonic, although Kittytonic V may still be faster) so we renamed her Knotty Kitty.
Knotty Kitty may be upgraded soon, so suggestions on what comes next? The next bigger Kitty may have a red hull, ideas?

Tardy to the party, but if you want to go obscure Buffett reference, look thru the song list for High Cumberland Jubilee or Down To Earth. Hard to tie any of those to the Cubs probably, but maybe something like Ellis D. Cub(s) or even easier and more confusing TURNABOUT.....what every true Cubs fan wants to see!!!
