yes simpson bay yacht club is really in Cole bay but it is on the Simpson bay lagoon. atrium and greenhouse are on simpson bay beach but the land mass is still Cole bay. the land mass of simpson bay does not begin until you cross the bridge. In the old days Simpson bay was completely cut off from Cole bay. people who lived there had to take boats to get to town or schools. most of us here refer to the overall broad area as Simpson bay too but actually it's Cole bay before the bridge and Simpson bay after the bridge

B,
Can you believe, we were there on the island when the existing road over the hill was being built and paved beyond what was once a dirt one lane road (or wide path? or so we were told at the time) which was our very first trip in '73 and when the bridge BEFORE the draw bridge we know today was floated into place replacing the original bridge, and when you put it in that perspective, the strange lay of Cole Bay does make more sense to me. Just hadn't thought about it before..... Now, I only hope my last sentence makes sense......
Respectfully,

I thought Cole Bay was where Paradise mall is. Where does Cole Bay begin & Simpson Bay end? I guess I really don't know.

Didn't see your question Carol or I wouldn't have asked the same thing. Weird, none of us foreigners know!

Thanks Barbara, that makes it pretty clear, I certainly did not know this but never really thought about where Cole Bay begins and ends.
Is it then Cole Bay to the border or ?
Cheers, Todd

Barbara said:boucharda said:BeachKitten said: Isn't Hollywood Casino Simpson Bay? Yes... ..and..just a thought. In France there is a market chain called "Casino"....maybe that's what is going there. .and yes, I know it's not on the French side. Hollywood Casino is in Cole Bay actually. So I guess we should notify Simpson Bay Resort about their erroneous name .. and a bunch of others: Bavaria

Could someone please check on how this impacts Lal (the curry shack). He has moved around a couple times before, so would not be surprised if he pops up in a new locale. Thaks!

Cheers, Todd Todd, on the side going to Marigot, cole bay stops at the border, yes. On the other side, it stops at the bridge.

BobD--I don't know whether 2003 is the right year or not, but I would bet 50 cents (or a whole lot more!!) of my own money that you were old enough to drink then!!!

In early 2003, like January 2003, it was Hot Tomatoes. That is when we first found SXM and that was a place we went to. Cheers!

Sambuca prior to Hot Tomatoes. Had a big brick oven and some pretty good pizza. I know it was Sambuca on the late 1990's. I think BobD was just a young whipper-snapper back then and probably not old enough to drink!

We enjoyed Sambuca a few times....Went to Hot Tomatoes when it first opened....and never returned again. Guess we weren't the only ones unimpressed.

I liked Sambucca better also especially for their pizza, but HT was there for quite a while and we went there several times.

According to a post on Facebook, Lal will stay where he is.
The previous owner of Starz Casino, also owned the Dunes, Paradise, and Tropicana casinos, in addition to the one downtown, by the bridge. Don't know if the other casinos were taken over by the Starz group.

In my very brief conversation with Lal he made it sound like he will be operating as normal and that he is not getting forced out. Note that he is closed for vacation, and he typically strips his place during the extended time that he closes.
I would expect Lal's to be open when we get there in November.
